Aerion Larethian

Assembly Member

Councilor Aerion Larethian

Half-Elf Pacifist • Newly Elected Assembly Member • “The Bloom of Peace”

Appearance

Aerion Larethian stands out in any assembly chamber.

He is a tall, graceful half-elf with long golden hair that falls almost to mid-back, often catching the sun in radiant strands as he gestures passionately. Behind his left ear he always wears a bright, fresh flower—sometimes lavender, sometimes sunflower yellow, sometimes white wildblossom—chosen daily to symbolize hope.

His clothing tends toward soft colors: pale blues, cream, gentle greens. He never carries a weapon, not even a ceremonial dagger. His boots are simple, his rings modest, his smile warm and sincere.

His eyes—soft green with flecks of gold—radiate conviction, calm, and an almost unnerving gentleness.

Public Persona

Aerion is a charismatic, soft-spoken idealist who draws crowds of young citizens, artists, scholars, and dreamers. His speeches are poetic, passionate, and filled with metaphors about growth, healing, and unity.

He has become known as “The Bloom of Peace,” a title he accepts with embarrassed humility.

He is a gifted orator, able to calm angry crowds or ignite them with inspiration. His peaceful protests often end with hundreds singing or holding hands in symbolic solidarity.

Personality

  • Gentle but unyielding
  • Intellectually brilliant
  • Emotionally perceptive
  • Idealistic to the point of stubbornness
  • Compassionate even to political enemies
  • More courageous than he appears—just not in the traditional martial sense

He is not naïve, but he is unwavering. He firmly believes violence only perpetuates cycles of harm.

Backstory

Aerion once served as a decorated soldier in the Lygos military. He was known for bravery, tactical insight, and a calm presence others rallied behind.

Then came The Crimson Crossing, a brutal border conflict. Aerion commanded a unit that suffered devastating casualties. Among the dead were:

  • his mentor,
  • two young conscripts he personally trained,
  • and a close companion he may have loved.

Unable to reconcile honor with loss, Aerion left the service. He traveled for several years to monasteries, druid circles, and temples of peace, seeking a new path.

When he returned to Lygos, he was transformed:

a warrior who rejected war entirely.

His election to the Assembly was considered an upset—thought impossible until he inspired a youth turnout that reshaped the vote.

Political Stance

Aerion consistently votes against:

  • military expansion
  • increased funding for weapons
  • foreign interventions
  • aggressive border policies
  • punitive measures against other species or nations

He advocates passionately for:

  • diplomatic outreach
  • cultural exchange
  • restorative justice
  • refugee protection
  • interspecies cooperation
  • demilitarization over time
  • and the idea that “no blade ever forged lasting peace.”

This has effectively painted a target on his back politically.

Opposition & Controversy

Older Assembly members call him:

  • “an eccentric boy”
  • “a naïve flower-child”
  • “a dangerous radical”
  • “a puppet for idealistic rabble”

Militarists view him as a threat to national security.

Traditionalists distrust his half-elven heritage and his progressive social goals.

Rumors spread that he is a coward, a foreign agent, or simply unhinged.

None of these are true.

But he is—undeniably—a political lightning rod.

Support Base

His following includes:

  • young citizens hungry for change
  • idealists and scholars
  • artists, poets, and bards
  • many half-elves and other marginalized folk
  • veterans who lost faith in war
  • members of refugee populations
  • those who believe Lygos must lead by moral example

His rallies are peaceful, musical, and strikingly beautiful.

Mannerisms

  • Touches the flower behind his ear when nervous
  • Speaks softly, causing crowds to lean in
  • Turns his palms upward when addressing opponents (“I have nothing to hide”)
  • Quotes philosophers and poets
  • Pauses mid-sentence when emotion overtakes him
  • Thanks political enemies after debates

Potential Plot Hooks

  • Assassination Attempt: PCs must protect him from extremists who want his voice silenced.
  • Political Turmoil: Aerion asks the players to escort him on a diplomatic mission.
  • Personal Crisis: A new conflict threatens to reignite his trauma from The Crimson Crossing.
  • Secrets of the Past: A surviving soldier from his unit blames him for the tragedy.
  • Red Wizards Connection: Maltheris Voss takes interest in him—either as adversary or pawn.
