Pivla Tinkershard

Clerk

Clerk-Supervisor Pivla Tinkershard

Calimshan Revenue Officer • Mountain Tax Liaison • Scourge of Lygosi Ledgers

Appearance

Pivla Tinkershard is a very small, very severe rock gnome with a compact, wiry frame. Her curly black hair is piled into a tight bun held with three brass pins shaped like quills. A pair of oversized spectacles sits on the bridge of her small, pointed nose, magnifying her sharp green eyes into intimidating orbs.

She wears:

  • an immaculate burgundy bureaucrat’s coat

  • brass buttons polished to blinding gleam

  • a leather ledger satchel slung across her torso

  • a belt full of tiny inkpots, stamps, and wax seals

  • a pocket watch she checks at least once every ten minutes

She smells faintly of ink, dust, and righteous indignation.

Personality

Pivla is:

  • hyper-precise

  • humorless

  • easily offended

  • deeply proud of Calimshan’s bureaucracy

  • fueled entirely by spite and ledger entries

  • fully convinced she is the lone sentry standing against corruption

She has a booming voice for a gnome, honed by years of shouting at disorganized soldiers.

Pivla is so committed to her job that she wakes up excited to ruin someone’s morning.

Her Role in the Pass

Pivla Tinkershard is the Calimshite revenue liaison assigned to monitor the flow of tariffs between Calimshan and Lygos. Using a long-standing treaty:

  • Calimshan taxes all mountain traffic.

  • Lygos taxes the Whitespray Strait sea traffic.

Everyone — including Pivla — knows Lygos got the better deal.

Pivla has taken this personally.

She shows up unannounced at Lygosi patrol posts with her ledger open like a drawn weapon.

Authority (as she interprets it)

Her official responsibilities:

  • cross-check caravan manifests

  • verify declared cargo

  • ensure taxes are collected and documented

Her self-declared responsibilities:

  • “Quality assurance of Lygosi diligence”

  • “Rectification of Lygosi mathematical incompetence”

  • “Audits as necessary or whimsical”

  • “Corrective yelling”

She wields her authority with gnomish ferocity — and sometimes petty malice.

Relationship with the Lygosi Patrols

The Lygosi soldiers tolerate her because:

  • resisting her inspection tantrums is exhausting,

  • any argument ends with more paperwork,

  • she reports directly to Calimshite command,

  • and she seems to enjoy shouting more than breathing.

Commander Aelivara Thorneveil loathes Pivla’s interruptions but begrudgingly admits she’s technically useful.

Pivla, meanwhile, sees the Lygosi as:

  • disorganized

  • lazy

  • careless

  • politically overrewarded

She never misses an opportunity to remind them Calimshan “carries the burden of civilization” while Lygos “siphons profit like a greedy sea-leech.”

Quotes

“No, no, no! This ink blot is unacceptable! Who made this entry? Show me their face!”
“Oh, don’t mind me. I’m only here to salvage what little honor Calimshan retains in this dreadful agreement.”
“Your patrol log is eight minutes late. Eight! Minutes!”
“Yes, yes, proceed with your ‘duties,’ Sergeant. I’ll just be here uncovering inefficiencies.”
“Ah! A misfiled tariff! The day is saved!”

Routine

Pivla’s day typically includes:

  • three surprise inspections

  • two furious notes to Calimshan headquarters

  • one dramatic tirade about treaty inequities

  • fourteen exasperated Lygosi soldiers

  • zero realized self-awareness

Ambitions & Hooks

  • Pivla aims to renegotiate the treaty — or at least bury Lygos in enough paperwork to make them suffer.

  • Pivla suspects the Bandit Queen Nettle is avoiding taxes, and she wants proof.

  • Pivla keeps meticulous records; she may unknowingly hold evidence of smuggling or espionage.

  • Pivla hates Durak Maliqbar’s laziness and writes weekly complaints that he ignores.

  • She may secretly admire Aelivara’s discipline but would never admit it.

  • She dreams of catching Lygos skimming profits — an accusation that could destabilize the peace.
