Heward's Handy Equipment Pack

Wondrous Item

This backpack has a central pouch which contains adventuring supplies, two side pouches which lead to extradimensional spaces, and various straps for attaching items on the outside. The large central pouch contains a maximum number of various non-magical items equal to triple the current wearer's proficiency bonus. Each side pouch can hold up to 20 pounds of material, not exceeding a volume of 2 cubic feet. The backpack always weighs 10 pounds regardless of its internal contents, though anything strapped on the exterior still weighs the same.

Side Pouches

Each Side pouch follows all restrictions and features as Heward's Handy Haversack.

Central Pouch
  • As an action you can lower the central pouch's current item count to withdraw a single piece of common, non-magical adventuring gear with a value of 25 gp or lower and a weight of no more than 20 pounds. Items removed are permanent mundane items which can not be used to restore the pack's item count.
  • As an action you can spend 1 charge to withdraw a single portion of trail ration and one gallon of water.
Restocking a Pack

Replenishing a pack's items in towns and cities is influenced by location, population, and environment with final cost determined the DM. The base cost is 25 gp per replenished charge. At the DM's option, looting defeated enemies or scavenging equipment can also replenish charges.

The Dungeon Master's Guide includes a section on foraging to find food and water sources while adventuring in various environments.
While foraged supplies can be used to avoid pulling from the pack's item count they can not be used to increase the count.

Notes: This item is meant to work in concert with the following rules about rest and recovery: A character must consume one portion of rations in order to benefit from a short rest. A character must consume one portion of rations and sleep somewhere comfortable (such as a tavern or campsite) to benefit from a long rest.
