Malefica Sceleris

🔍 Subject File: Malefica Sceleris

Status: Active
Classification: High-Priority Arcane Threat (Unconfirmed)

Overview

There are whispered accounts of a being known as Malefica Sceleris, said to haunt forgotten ruins and ancient vaults, always in pursuit of something lost—or perhaps better left undisturbed. Most believe she is a spirit naga, though her powers and behavior suggest significant magical augmentation and possibly extraplanar influence.

Reports from scattered informants and recovered field notes describe a serpentine figure cloaked in shimmering obsidian scales and eyes that glow like molten gold. She moves with fluid grace, and her voice is said to carry an unnatural compulsion—a serpentine charm that burrows into the mind. Wherever she goes, illusion, fire, and enslavement follow.

Arcane Capacity and Artifacts

Malefica is believed to wield formidable arcane powers focused on enchantment, illusion, and elemental flame. She has demonstrated the ability to hurl lightning, conjure fireballs, and dominate the minds of mortals and monsters alike. She is also known to favor tactics that disrupt magical casting and confuse perceptions on the battlefield.

Recent Developments – Camp Dragon Infiltration

In the settlement known as Camp Dragon, Malefica has quietly begun implementing a localized control network using arcane constructs disguised as benign statues. These objects, often carved to resemble symbols of local pride or draconic heritage, are enchanted with subtle domination magic.

When placed in proximity to populated areas—such as common spaces, watch posts, or administrative quarters—they exert a low-grade mental influence, gently altering the thoughts and loyalties of those who pass by frequently. Early-stage exposure promotes passive compliance and emotional dulling. Continued proximity leads to full susceptibility to Malefica’s direct commands, delivered remotely through linked arcane sigils etched beneath the statues’ bases.

Local awareness of the statues’ true nature remains minimal, with their auras masked by illusion and the compulsion spells designed to avoid detection from standard divination or dispelling techniques.

Current Objectives (Speculative Analysis)

Theories suggest Malefica is seeking an artifact known as Eldritch Keys of The Veiled Ones Vault: Volume II: The Vault’s Schematics, believed to be a component of the Eldritch Keys of the Veiled Ones Vault. These schematics reportedly contain architectural and magical diagrams necessary to breach a vault of ancient design—rumored to hold relics of immense and possibly reality-shaping power.

It is possible the Camp Dragon domination network is a preliminary test or strategic control point for later operations connected to this vault.

Unknown Allegiances

There is indirect evidence that Malefica may be acting, knowingly or not, on behalf of a higher power. One name has surfaced: Van Droth, member of The Arcane Octad and a self-proclaimed necromancer-lich. While no direct link has been confirmed, Van Droth’s interest in eldritch relics and reality manipulation aligns suspiciously well with Malefica’s trajectory.

Whether she is his pawn, agent, rival—or all three—is unclear.

Risk Assessment

Malefica poses a significant and escalating threat to arcane balance and geopolitical stability. If she obtains the Vault’s Schematics, she may be able to forge the Keys of Despair—artifacts said to bypass any ward and open dimensional locks woven by the Veiled Ones themselves.

Her current activities in Camp Dragon suggest a move from opportunistic artifact hunting to structured domination infrastructure, implying long-term regional control is now part of her plan.

Should Malefica access the Vault—or expand her control beyond Camp Dragon—the consequences may echo across realms.

  • Observation and delay preferred.

  • Direct confrontation not advised without a fully warded arcane unit.

  • Investigate known statue placements in Camp Dragon.

  • Any individuals or adventuring parties operating in the region should be informed, armed, and wary.

Scene: Crucible Courtyard – The Shattered Watcher

Scene: Crucible Courtyard – The Shattered Watcher

The night sky over the Crucible of Asura swirls with smoke and sparks. The battle is over, but the carnage still breathes. Charred stables hiss with flame, terrified hadrosaur pack-beasts wailing in fear as handlers struggle to calm them. Around the courtyard lie the broken bodies of weretigers, their half-shifted forms sprawled in bloodied heaps.

At the center, the Sentinels of Seregon stand over the bruised and unconscious body of Marij’s underling, their weapons still hot from battle, their eyes alert for treachery yet unspent.

Tailyn Blithe, robes smudged with soot and spell-burns, kneels beside the fallen lieutenant. His long fingers carefully draw back a silken garment—Marij’s Robe of Eyes—its unblinking orbs twitching subtly even in death.

“Curious thing,” he murmurs, slipping the robe over his shoulders with the eager reverence of a scholar discovering forbidden scripture. “Sight upon sight… Let’s see what truths you’ve hoarded, Marij.”

The moment the robe settles across his shoulders, the eyes flare to life—briefly, unnervingly—and Tailyn’s gaze is pulled toward something in the air. Not with magical clarity, but with an unnatural awareness. Something is wrong in the world’s texture.

“Wait…” he says, brows knitting, his gaze sweeping above the courtyard like a man hearing a voice too faint to place. “There’s something—no, someone.”

Above them, about ten feet up and drifting with unnatural stillness, hovers a faint orb of light—invisible to most, but somehow not to Tailyn in this moment. The Robe of Eyes doesn’t reveal it directly, but its presence sharpens his perception, aligning his senses with what shouldn’t be seen.

“There!” Tailyn shouts, pointing to the empty air. “Divination! We’re being watched!”

Vel Thandor raises his blade reflexively. Eirik the Lore-Singer stiffens, turning toward the unseen menace.

Tailyn is already acting. A quick gesture, a cutting word, and he hurls the incantation of Dispel Magic upward. The air twists, snaps—and with a sound like shattering glass inside a storm, the invisible orb blinks out of existence.

A silence follows. But it is not empty.

From the vanishing point of the orb, a voice drips through the air like warm oil, feminine and coiled with malice. It does not echo, but it lingers in the bones.

“Well played, Sentinels of Seregon…
But I see you now. And at my choosing.”

The firelight casts new shapes across the courtyard stones. The surviving Sentinels exchange wary looks.

Tailyn, his face pale beneath the soot, straightens slowly. His voice is quiet.

“She’s… a serpent,” he says, as if tasting the realization. “I had not imagined…”

The implications bloom like rot beneath a golden mask.

Malefica Sceleris had not meant to spy on them—she sought Marij. But she has found something else. Something far more interesting.

And now, she knows them.

This moment will be remembered not only for their victory over Marij’s forces—but as the instant they were drawn into Malefica’s gaze.

Telepathic Exchange: Tailyn and Yilathiss: The Serpent Queen

🐍 Telepathic Exchange: Tailyn and Yilathiss: The Serpent Queen

As the flickering flames of the Crucible’s stables reflect in the many unblinking eyes of his newly claimed robe, Tailyn Blithe narrows his focus and reaches outward—beyond the material world—his mind brushing against the familiar coils of cold, calculating thought.

He hears it before he feels it—the velvet whisper of scales sliding across ancient stone, and then…

"Ahh… Tailyn. My bright-blooded darling. What have you uncovered now?"

The voice of Yilathiss, Empress of Coiled Shadows, winds through his mind like silk over steel. Her thoughts are soaked in regal amusement—and something darker.

Tailyn, mental voice sharp and curious:

"A spirit naga, goes by the name Malefica. We shattered her sensor. She was scrying through Marij. What do you know of her?"

There is a pause. A coil tightens somewhere unseen. Then, Yilathiss speaks, her mental tone low and layered with loathing.

"Malefica… yes. The flame-wrapped usurper. She slithers in circles she barely understands, clutching at ancient powers like a starving wyrmling clawing through ash. A spirit once, perhaps noble—but now riddled with pacts and parasites."

"She serves, or served, the lich Van Droth—though whether by will or infernal signature, I could not say. Whispers say she inked something in blood and soul. A contract, they say, penned in ruby dust and mortal screams. Van Droth does so enjoy making monsters from the desperate."

"And now you say she watches you?"

A hiss slithers through the link, not from breath but from disdain sharpened into a blade.

"She has seen you. That is… unfortunate. She is clever, Blithe. Obsessive. She builds things. Constructs. Statues. Red eyes that do not close. She believes herself sovereign of will—but I wonder whose will it truly is."

"Do not take her lightly. She is not of my kind, no matter her shape. She is a pretender wrapped in serpent skin— a mimic of divinity with a mind bound in flame and chains."**

"If she acts directly, she is vulnerable. You should savor that. Most of her enemies never see her face before they fall to their knees, weeping praises they never chose to speak."

A flicker of fondness glints in her mental presence.

"Still, I admire her taste in subjugation. We may even have… things to learn from one another. But beware, my bright-eyed Tailyn. Once she sees you, she does not forget. Nor does she forgive."
