Salt Marsh Station, once a thriving commercial hub for the Locantis Route, lies 130 miles north of Helderdink and 60 miles south of Mezro. Built to facilitate the transport of salt shipments from the nearby marshlands, this station also served as a gateway to the Citadel of Shadow Nyx, an opulent and mysterious castle owned by a powerful warlock. The station, much like the citadel, has since fallen into ruin following the apocalypse, its purpose lost and its pathways overgrown.
Salt Marsh Station
Description: Salt Marsh Station was once bustling with activity, its platforms piled high with sacks of salt ready for transport along the Locantis Route. Now, it stands abandoned, overtaken by the salt marshes. The air here is thick with the briny scent of saltwater and decay, and the buildings that remain are in various states of disrepair—rotted wood, collapsed roofs, and rusted machinery are all that’s left of its once vital function.
The Decaying Citadel of Shadow Nyx
Description: Looming over the Salt Mire, the Decaying Citadel of Shadow Nyx was once a place of immense power and prestige. Built from dark stone and adorned with arcane symbols, the citadel now slowly sinks into the bog, its walls cracked and overgrown with moss and ivy. Once, the warlock Nyx, an eccentric and reclusive figure, ruled over the citadel, welcoming travelers and adventurers alike into her guesthouse with opulent hospitality. She was known for her immense wealth, her lizardfolk staff, and her mastery of dark magic.
However, with the fall of the Locantis Route and the apocalypse, the fate of Nyx remains shrouded in mystery. The citadel has since become a haunted, crumbling ruin, with only rumors and legends remaining to suggest what became of her. Some say she vanished into the Dreamlands, others claim she was betrayed by her own staff, or that her obsession with necromantic magic consumed her.
Current State: The citadel now stands half-sunken into the Salt Mire, its foundations crumbling. Its former grandeur is barely recognizable beneath the grime and decay. The once-beautiful guesthouse is now little more than a sagging ruin, with tattered curtains fluttering in the wind and broken chandeliers hanging precariously from the ceiling. The interior is said to still contain hidden treasures—artifacts from Nyx’s magical experiments and wealth beyond imagining—but few dare enter, for the citadel is no longer uninhabited.
