Yet in a time of war and dark prophecy, Xochitl was sacrificed against her will, drowned in ritual beneath the sacred waters of her homeland to serve eternally as a guardian. The queen’s sorcerers bound her spirit to the lake and her form to the shape of a sea dragon, one who would watch over the queen's tomb and the secrets of their civilization long after death had claimed her.
Now, Xochitl is known by legend as the Restless Guardian. Her name echoes across the region as a fearsome warning: she is said to rise from the waters on stormy nights, her scales glistening with the moon’s light and her voice carrying a hollow echo, both beautiful and terrible. As one of the Olmoy, Xochitl still harbors secrets of their lost empire—forgotten languages, stories of cosmic power, and knowledge of the Old Ones themselves. Some claim her breath is strained as if the waters still hold her in their depths, while others speak of her sorrowful gaze that pierces any intruders.
The superstitious locals tell that only those of pure purpose may approach her lake and leave unscathed. To others, she is a figure of sorrow and unending vigilance, guarding what is sacred with a loyalty that not even death could sever.
