Jafra Kharet, Second in Command at the Temple of Set - Rockport
Jafra Kharet is the sour-tempered right hand of High Priest Mador Kheb. With a gaunt frame, sunken eyes, and a voice as sharp as a serpent's fang, Jafra radiates an aura of bitterness that makes even his peers uneasy. His olive-toned skin is etched with deep wrinkles, and a jagged scar slices across his cheek—a remnant of his youth in the treacherous jungles.
Appearance and Bearing
Jafra is always clad in dark ceremonial robes adorned with embroidered snakes that seem to writhe under flickering torchlight. He carries a blackened staff topped with a coiled serpent, an artifact imbued with minor magical abilities that enhance his menacing air. His cold, yellow-tinged eyes seem to pierce through any who dare question his authority. Jafra’s thin lips rarely part except to issue curt orders, utter venomous invectives, or mutter prayers to Set in a low, rasping tone.
Personality
Jafra’s sour disposition is legendary among the temple clergy. While Mador Kheb schemes with calculated charm, Jafra is the enforcer, wielding fear and intimidation to maintain control. He is jealous of his position, paranoid about betrayal, and obsessed with rooting out dissent among the acolytes. His disdain for nearly everyone he meets stems from his belief that only he truly understands Set’s will.
While deeply devoted to Set, Jafra harbors resentment toward Mador Kheb’s flamboyant methods, believing them to be unworthy of the god of secrets and shadows. This tension, while unspoken, occasionally manifests in subtle barbs and passive-aggressive remarks during temple meetings.
Abilities and Role
Jafra is a skilled cleric specializing in divination and necromancy. He excels in extracting confessions or secrets, often invoking Set’s power to intimidate or manipulate. His sour demeanor masks a cunning mind that can anticipate others' moves, a trait that makes him invaluable to Mador Kheb despite their strained relationship.
