Letter from Malefica to Marij Lang About The Blade

To Marij Lang, Seeker of Shadows, Vaultward of the Crucible, and Binder of the Eighth Spiral,

You are to receive the blade, though I trust you do not name it aloud.

Treat it not as a relic, but as what it truly is: a hinge upon which fates may turn. It is a contingency, should our "benefactor" falter, fall, or turn his gaze upon me with sharper interest than I prefer. Let it be known only to you, and to no priest, no beast, not even to Ambrosius, whose theatrics would see the blade paraded before the very eyes we must keep blind.

You are to hide it beneath obsidian-glass, as instructed. The vessel is forged to block the sight of any who would spy upon us from shadowed thrones or celestial watchtowers. Not Ravana. Not the Emerald. Not even Van Droth’s phylactery-fed nightmares.

This is not to be used lightly. If I perish, or if House Rakthavarna comes to reclaim their birthright, you are to offer them the blade in my name. It will buy us favor, perhaps even alliance. Dvaarash Karnak is not to be underestimated—he will know what it is.

Should Zindari the Emerald-Skinned take the field again, the blade may serve to trap her soul, and in doing so, end her cycle. The enchantments are precise. One death—one true death—is all it requires. But it must be delivered by the sword.

And Marij—be cautious. The blade is no simple weapon. It can wound more than flesh. It remembers. It whispers. If it sings to you, do not answer. If it dreams through you, do not sleep.

If it calls you by name, burn this letter and prepare for your own end.

With all the sincerity that eternity allows,
Malefica Sceleris
Scion of the Spiral Coil, Whispered Queen of the Sunken Temple, Servant (for now) of Ravana
