The year is 2089 - the world has suffered many changes. With the economic collapse of the early 2020s a new corporate world order rose afterwards. With the advent of metahumans at the beginning of the century, many weapons manufacturers and governments began to heavily invest into cybernetic and AI technology to level the playing field.
On top of everything an ecological collapse soon followed, as the 2050s saw an unprecedent eradication of many species and destruction of biomes - leaving many areas quite barren. A few corporation stepped in to preserve as much as they could, leading to large scale reservations that turned what surviving nature was left into a commodity for the rich to enjoy.
The world is reshaped as water levels rise by more than one meter flooding most major cities across the world and wiping off certain nations. Higher than ever temperatures led to mass migrations towards northern regions, as previously warm regions became uninhabitable. An unstable climate forms, as major freak weather events begin to happen more and more often.
Famine causes other corps to step into place beginning to fabricate synthetic food to meet shortages across the world. Air pollution becomes another global issue, as the public adopts air filter transplants or for those that can't afford it, masks.
All this while AI and automation takes more and more, leading to the eradication of the middle class widening the already existing divide between the rich and poor.
