As combat broke out in front of Khazan's Tower, a dozen more wolves and wolf-men emerged from the mists. The Pack were desperately outnumbered by the far larger force, but were determined to stand their ground. Shakti manipulated the waters of Lake Baratok into a tidal wave, flooding the western portion of the land bridge and bowling over their foes. Meanwhile, Ghalwin maneuvered to bear the brunt of his foes' force, drawing their attention on the eastern side.
At Ezmerelda's instruction, they struck with silvered weapons to prevent the werewolves' regeneration, and Atlas began targeting their shape-changing abilities with magical moonlight. Turning a shape-changer into a regular guy, the cleric received a punch to the face before he and Lancelot teamed up to take him down and defend the tower. Shakti wild-shaped into a saber toothed tiger, shredding her opponents while van Richten pumped them with silvered crossbow bolts from above. Ezmerelda cast bolts of magical lightning, electrifying lines of foes as Ghalwin maintained his own moonbeam. He kept concentration of his spell while tanking attacks, never letting go despite being completely surrounded by fur and fang.
Wearily, they were able to wither down the waves of wolves and werewolves, and the mighty ravager Kiril was forced to call for a retreat. The remaining shape-changers turned into beasts and fled as Ghalwin pinned down Kiril while taking on a dire wolf; he swore that he would not let the leader escape. The rest of the Pack were not inclined to let the others get away either. They slaughtered the stragglers, and though Kiril proved difficult to control, Atlas was able to put him to sleep after Ghalwin and Ezmerelda wounded him terribly. The wildshaped Shakti dashed to catch the two last werewolves that fled into the mists, and though one managed to escape, she tore the other apart with magically-enhanced saber fangs. The party determined that it was fine to have let one escape, as he would relay their utter defeat to the rest of his pack.
Meanwhile, they had to make a decision on what to do with Kiril. The Pack wanted information: van Richten advised they shove silver into his body to prevent him from healing. Ghalwin manacled him to the wall with a piton, and everyone began stabbing whatever silver implements they had into Kiril. He woke up howling, unable to regenerate and quickly bled out, but Atlas kept him alive. Ghalwin decided to play torturer, and perhaps went a little overboard. After rounds of hostile talk and further stabbing, the paladin had absolutely incensed the ravager and potentially made a life-long enemy. However, Shakti took over from her brother and managed to calm their prisoner. Kiril spoke of how the werewolves did not pray to Strahd, but instead Mother Night. He also revealed that he may be a descendant of Jaghr of the Longtooth, and Shakti persuaded him that she was his direct daughter.
Though Kiril did not entirely understand the link between her Pack and his, he informed her that some spirit of Jaghr remained in Barovia, and that he was considered the Wolf-Father of all werewolves in the valley. He offered Shakti a deal: he would escort her to Jaghr's spirit, but that the humans could not join them. Hesitatingly, the party began sidebarring, unsure of the best way forward. Shakti had come to Barovia to fill some part of her destiny, and the offer was in line with Ezmerelda's tarokka reading, but sending her alone to the jaws of a hated enemy would be beyond dangerous.
She eventually declined his offer, but refused to let Ghalwin kill their captive, instead dismissing him. She was unsure if the werewolf was indeed her biological nephew, but was sure that killing him here was not what Mother Night wanted. Now unshackled, Kiril raced out of Khazan's Tower and jumped into the lake, leaving behind only the echoes of his howls and the bodies of his family.
