How This Campaign Works
This campaign begins at 1st level and uses Old School Essentials Advanced as its core ruleset.
Play is structured as an open sandbox hex crawl. There is no required adventure path. Instead, the world presents problems, locations, and pressures. Which ones you engage with, and in what order, is up to you.
Exploration and Travel
Much of play takes place between settlements.
-
The wilderness is mapped in hexes. Entering a hex reveals what is there unless it is explicitly hidden.
-
Travel involves weather checks, navigation, and resource management. Getting lost, delayed, or diverted is possible.
-
Roads matter. Shelter matters. Preparation matters.
Weather, distance, and terrain are not flavor. They are mechanics that shape risk and opportunity.
Adventures
The world contains many discrete adventures, often dungeons, ruins, or compromised settlements.
-
Some are short and local.
-
Some are multi-session delves.
-
Some are loosely connected by theme, geography, or consequence.
None are mandatory. Ignoring a problem does not remove it. It simply resolves without you.
Advancement and Risk
Early play is local, dangerous, and constrained.
-
Retreat is expected.
-
Information is partial.
-
Mistakes are costly.
As characters gain levels, travel expands, authority thins, and the wilderness grows less predictable. The world does not scale to you. You scale into it.
Consequences
Player actions change the setting.
-
Routes may open or close.
-
Settlements may stabilize or fail.
-
Factions adapt to your behavior.
Some changes are visible immediately. Others surface months later. The campaign tracks consequence quietly, not cinematically.
What to Expect at the Table
-
Player-driven exploration
-
Meaningful logistics and travel decisions
-
A mix of investigation, negotiation, and violence
-
Dungeons that reward caution, mapping, and memory
-
A world that reacts, but does not explain itself
This is a campaign where knowing when not to act can be as important as bravery.
