Islendig

Islendig

The Islendig are the closest descendants of the Førstavoss, accounting for the very pale skin tones they exhibit. Living in the most extreme of the north, the Islendig are the only race who can tolerate the year round freezing temperatures and lack of sunlight for extended periods of time. Food is also scarce and the Islendig have adapted to live off very little and a heavy cultural reliance on magic has led to physical changes. Islendig blood runs with arcane energy, supplementing their cultural proclivities for magical practices. Additionally, their eyesight developed, not just being able to see in the dark, and they are able gauge whether something is magical simply by observing it.

Ability Score: Wisdom +1, Constitution +1

Superior Darkvision: You can see in darkness as if it is dim light for 120ft.

Blindsight: An inherent sense of where things are, even when they cannot be seen, is an important trait for Islendig survival and they have become accustomed to using there other sense for this.

You have blindsight up to a range of 10ft.

Contracted Pupils: While half the year is dark, the other half is dazzlingly bright. In order to avoid snow blindness the Islendig pupils are incredibly small. This does have it’s draw backs however.

This feature replaces the trait 'Keen Sight'. You have advantage on rolls to avoid being blinded from external light, magical or otherwise.

Efficient Digestion: You only require half rations in order to benefit from long rests. You can subsist on a half ration for two days.

Cold Resistance: You are resistant to Cold damage. You have advantage on saving throws against the effects of cold based spells.

Arcane Attunement: You gain proficiency with the Arcana skill, this becomes expertise if gained again.

You may use the magic within you to look into the Arcana plane, this will reveal nearby objects that are magical for one minute, but for this duration you are otherwise blinded.

Alternatively, you may use this ability to make an Arcana check and attempt to discern the effect of a known magical object. You can only use this ability once per long rest.

Heat Sensitivity: Despite being able to regulate temperature, the Islendig are specialised for low temperatures.

In high temperatures you are treated as having one level of Exhaustion. The does not stack with Exhaustion from other sources and will be superseded by higher Exhaustion levels from other sources.
