The County of Esteppleshire
The County of Esteppleshire is a densely forested portion of western Palingvyre. By county standards, although larger than some of the heartlands, it is considered a minor title. Esteppleshire has no major industries so to speak, but makes great use of the woodland for game hunting, providing bespoke and prized furs to its neighbours and higher nobility. For this reason, much of the forest is considered to be part of the Earl’s private estate and the Esteppleshire Rangers police the area heavily. The county has some of the strictest laws against poaching, and the Earl himself of presides over his own ‘irregular bar’ one of the many forms of lower courts that the peasantry can find themselves before. The county publicly displays the miscreants who fall foul of the law from the gallows on the roads leading into it, but the risk is still worthwhile for many to pursue.
Demographically, the county sits on what was once elven land and the majority of the peasantry are elves. human settlers were encouraged to settle this part of Palingvyre when it was originally conquered, but the county itself did not exist at the time and humans remained a minority. Unusually, there have also been reports of ceiwryn living in the area, but it is likely these would be fleeting, given their nomadic lifestyle.
