Jak fetches a hammock while Sirona and Adrian examine the box and body. Sirona says the body is dead but wants to try and save it. Jak declines, saying in heartbreak that nothing can be done. Sirona gets upset and backs off to later leave without anyone noticing.
Jak and Adrian, with help from the sailors, throw the coffin over bord and watches it sink. Irdien comforts Jak with a hug and some kind words. Jak asks Captain Francis Woodleaf for some strong alcohol to make a toast. The Captain provides and leads a sailor prayer.
Irdien goes down to the cabin to work on a letter. She finds a note Sirona has left for Jak. Irdien is feeling angry and decides to replace Jak's lost hammock with the one belonging to the creepy crewman that's been avoiding Sirona. Just for good measure, she decides to take his painkiller ointment too as she remembers Adrian telling her about it. Just as she reaches into his holding chest, Seraphina catches her. Irdien manages to convince her that she was sent to fetch something. Irdien abandons her mission, and as she comes back up on deck, another sailor hands her a hammock asking her to help Jak with setting it up, which Irdien does.
A couple of hours later, as sunrise is approaching, Jak, noticeably drunk, finally find Sirona's hiding spot. He drops down in front of her and tells a pun joke. Sirona gets so taken aback by the gag that it completely halts her downwards spiral of self-doubt and she sits down next to him and gives him a long hug.
As the morning comes along The Bosun, Elered Mithanmyr, also known to the group as the creepy sailor that's been avoiding Sirona, finds Irdien sitting up on deck. He tells her that Seraphina told him she went through his stuff last night and he wants to know why before he reports her to the Captain. Irdien asks him why he has a problem med Sirona, and he tells her that he hates birds, pointing to an old scares over a damaged eye. Irdien admits that she went through his things but didn't take anything and she only did it because she wanted to make sure her friend wasn't in danger. He accepts her apology.
Later during the same day, the group are surprised by a loud creak, and a sudden plunge as the boat drops. Running up to the highest deck, they spot a dark coloration in the water immediately around the ship. Irdien and Adrian even make up the shapes of giant tentacles splashing around the vessel. Jak pulls out his bow and shots into the water, but one of the Sailors quickly tells him to stop. There is a column of water as a crate explodes from below the surface. The blast scars off the Kraken, and the crisis is averted. Nothing else happens before the vessel makes it to Shadow Port after dark the same day.
Jak takes the lead as they disembark, bribing Elmar, the harbor master, and giving fake names before leading the group away from the spectacular nightlife of the Cardinals casino in the Elm Hill's district. Jak takes them to a quieter part of town and a tavern called The Restless Hunter. They all check-in, dividing up in different rooms. Adrian gets one befitting an aristocrat in the hopes of higher security around their things and especially the cursed dagger. Sirona and Labrat share one place while the rest gets a room each.
Jak brings Irdien along for a late-night stroll over to a shop selling books and other curiosities. There they have a chat with the owner, who Jak clearly knows. Jak seems to be familiar with a lot of people in this town.
Perusing the shop, Jak asks for Irdien's opinion regarding if he should buy a staff or one of four wands on display. Irdien suggests the extended stave of twisting wood with a glass orb colored to look like an emerald. For fun, Jak asks the shopkeeper if he can play a game of dice for the staff. The man agrees and proceeds to win, with the help of loaded dice. He chuckles and lets Jak pay the original price.
Meanwhile, Adrian asks if he can get a bottle of his family wine at the tavern since he heard they sell exclusively in Shadow port. He is told that only the Cardinal are allowed to serve their wine. He gets another bottle and orders some room service as his room is by far the coolest one to hang out in. He, Capper, Sirona and Labrat make themselves at home while waiting for Irdien and Jak to return.
Next morning was the group comes down the stairs to the common area for breakfast they are meet by five guards asking for Adrian Mauritz. They tell him The Cardinal sent them and that he is to be placed under house arrest since he is a flight risk. They also inform them that his brother is already waiting. The Cardinal claims to have bought a lot of their family estate. Adrian declines the invitation, and a fight breaks out.
