When lord Gawli finishes his story and Sirona helps him to the barracks to rest Jak notices that in the corner of the armoury where they received their gifts stands Samuel and the other spirit that fought with them in the battle. Their appearance has changed. They no longer look tormented and ghastly. Now they look like what Jak can imagine they did on the day of their death. He approaches them and bows before reciting an original eulogy to honour the men. They smile and nod, saying their contracts have been fulfilled before vanishing out of existence. Jak sheds a tear at the intense moment. Adrian gives him a look like going over the weapons in the room to see anything worth keeping. Jak wanders over to an old ballista to find out if he can harvest the string for his lute, but it has rotted away beyond any use.
The group is all together back in the armoury looking over weapons while Gawli rests. Sirona asks Adrian about the battle. Adrian compliments everyone's effort. Sirona thanks Labrat and Adrian for literally taking arrows for her. She and Labrat share a moment over how final a fight can be. Jak is being dramatic over Adrian and Irdien putting out his fire but asks Adrian if he's ever considered fighting for a sport/entertainment. Irdien tells the group that she has started working for the Thanor'Thal. Sirona asks if she's in trouble, but the rogue says it's under control, but that she thought they should know. She gives no details. Sirona gets one of her silent emotional crises and sits down to rest.
The group continue to search the castle systematically. Irdien tries to see if there are any hidden compartments, but the castle does not seem to have any. Jak finds the library and starts pulling out books on monsters and puts them in his chest of holding. He fins 13 books that he plans to sell to The monster Hunters guild. He also finds a book of dwarven holidays, a book on Morena and helps Labrat find two books about humanoid reptilians, although nothing like her. It is more about Kobolds and lizardmen. There are mentions of rumours about a draconic race but no confirmation. He promises her to help teach her to read them without bursting into songs.
Sirona notices that the sun seems position oddly as she passes a window and starts searching for maps in the library. After some estimations, she concludes that they are way up north. They are ruffly a thousand km away, approximately 22 days travel on horseback away from Shadow Port. Adrian points out that the map is missing the territory of [inser name], a nomadic people who would kill them all on sight. The castle they are in is on the other side of their borders.
Sirona asks Jak about the name he picked for the group when they signed up for the mission, saying that she'd prefer if it were something else. Adrian suggests that they switch every time it's needed. That way, they'll be harder to track. Although Jak says he wouldn't mind staying longer seeing as it isn't every day you find an enchanted castle, the group starts finishing up.
Adrian squeezes the stone to signal that they are ready to be teleported back, but nothing happens except the stone getting warm. The group quickly assumes that Kessemir has no intention of bringing them back and starts discussing how they'll be able to return to shadow port now. However, after quite a long while, the stone activates, and the group is teleported into a warehouse.
They find Mr Crewe, Mi'zri, Kessemir and a fourth man, a dwarf introduced as Gluri [insert last name ]of The Bookkeepers. The three crime families' lieutenants inform them that the group have proven themselves trustworthy and capable and will now proceed with the plan to overthrow The Cardinal.
The assault will take place around four in the morning of the 28th September. The ground forces will storm The Casino and make it look like an attack on their museum of valuable items. They hope that it will draw out most of the guards so the group can get teleported in through the private apartments and find the leaders of the Cardinal and Frogeshifters and dispose of them. Sirona heavily objects to the assumption that they will kill them and diligently work towards a deal where all parts agree not to murder the overthrown crime houses' leaders. The contract becomes as follows; Kessemir and the group will teleport in and capture the leaders. In return, The Demara family will absolve the debt between the Cardinal and the Mauritz family. The Bookkeepers will grant access to their library for a couple of days, and The Thanor'Thal will be in charge of keeping the prisoners alive and that they will simply be banished from Shadowport. Kessemir points out that his contract with The ThanorThal will also be concluded after this conflict. Adrian takes out Arlissa's wand and uses it as a back scratcher to silently show just how much he cares for Kessemir's sort, but the necromancer doesn't react. Sirona points out that she doesn't want Kessemir's help, and there is an unsatisfying compromise that Kessemir will not bring any undead to the fight.
The group leaves the warehouse in various state of tension. Adrian is not happy with Sirona's demands to keep the crime family that's threatened his bothers life alive but chooses not to bring it up for now.
They spend the afternoon selling off some equipment and items they have collected over their time together. Irdien immediately asks for her share instead of letting Adrian hold all the money. Sirona remembers that she owes the others some hot cocoa after losing the snowballs fights and requests the group to head over to the shop with the chimney cakes, even if the next coming days might be too grave to let anyone be in the mood for chocolate.
