After a couple of hours walk, where Sirona is granted a piggyback ride from L and Jak takes enough comforting sips to become rel tipsy, the group finally arrive at the unexplored mine. Adrian mentions that the kobolds might take a liking to L seeing as she is so powerful. As Jak hears this, he composes an improvised song about Labrat, the mighty hero demigoddess.
To keep the element of surprise, Adrian and Irdien sneak into a small side path. At the same time, the singing Jak and now halo glowing Sirona together with L walks in the central opening. Adrian trained drake Arcus stays with L to add to the reverence.
The cave system is dark save for some daylight streaks that fall through natural cracks in the rough. Irdien and L, who has a significant advantage when moving through dark places, has no problem. L makes sure to hoover close to protect Sirona while Irdien hears and spots movement from deeper within. She tries to signalling Adrian, but the human can't see her. This becomes apparent when he just a few moments later tells her in a whisper that he's spotted some kobolds. Irdien sends a mental message to Jak through the magical cards telling him to spread the word.
Jak summons a ghost of a murdered butcher and sends him down a third side corridor with the instruction to make lots of noise and engage any hostile enemies he encounters.
Both the traversed tunnels reach a small central chamber, reuniting the group save for the ghostly horror. Before them, there is a cavern with an old wooden bridge. On its other side, a group of kobolds have gathered, telling the invaders they are protecting something. Irdien learns that they are laying an ambush and spots some kobolds up on a higher ledge. Both she and Adrian aims. Adrian uses the magical bow to use his shot with some of his blood and instantly takes the kobold out. Irdien throws a dagger that hits another one in the neck, causing it to stumble forwards and accidentally push two more with him into the ravine. As Adrian screams for Arcus to attack, Irdien sends another message to Jak to warn the rest of the ambush trap that she has spotted. The bard does so, but without any details, then " there is a trap". The others aren't sure what to look out for.
Sirona moves up and fires an icy javelin at one of the kobolds by the bridge. It screams and aims its crossbow at her together with the rest of his friends. As they pull the trigger, Irdien jumps in front of her, repelling some arrows, but one hits her. Jak discharges a gauntlet of death as his ghost emerge from a second bridge and gates attacked by the ambushing kobolds swinging by from their ledge. Labrat runs ahead to shield Sirona and Irdien. She bellows out, lighting at one of the kobolds.
The two engaged groups fight. Arcus, who diligently obeys his master, gets surrounded by the kobolds and is stabbed hard enough to lose consciousness. Adrian is immediately by his side, forcing them away from his buddy. He uses his infusion power to transfer more health from himself into the drake. Then, from out of nowhere, another kobolds swing by over their heads and throws a neat over Labrat. The dragonspawn promptly pulls it off her and throws it down the ravine.
Jak has taken in the cave and its abandoned equipment and has found a metal axle and a sizeable old empty barrel. He quickly hosts the barrel upon the axle and allies the wheels on the old mine tracks. Then, with the intent to bulrush the kobolds, he yells to his friends to get out of the way as he starts running. It is unclear if it's due to the alcohol and the old saying "do not drink and drive", or if it's the poor state of the bars, but sadly the wheels derail and fall over the edge of the bridge. Luckily enough, the bard does not follow suit. The fight ensues. L manages to take down the swinging fly-byers while Adrian parries the incoming attacks. Irdien, Sirona and Jak remain a step back, attacking with flying knives, javelins and arrows. At one point, the sheer amount of spears thrashing violently manages to get around Adrian's defences, and the monster hunter looks severely wounded. He quickly pulls free a healing potion and drinks it. He takes the empty bottle, smashes it against one of the dead kobolds helmets, and holds the shards up like a knife snarling intimidatingly. The kobold is so distracted that it fails to see Irdien emerge by its side to slit its throat.
Fearing to hit Labrat, Sirona chooses not to fire another javelin at the last remaining kobold. Instead, she runs up by her friends' side and lifts her war pick in an attempt to wack it. She almost misses, but the gracing strike is enough to kill it and end the combat.
The first thing that happens is that Jak finds some sticky resin and tries to stealthy wipe some on Irdien in an attempt to get stuck to her. It fails, but now both their clothing is ruined.
Ignoring him, Irdien tries to make the group focus on the words the Kobolds were speaking. Jak recalls the word as "Golthrash". Sirona gets confused that the term should have meaning since kobolds are monsters, but the others start explaining to her that they can speak in their own language, as proven by Irdiens earpiece. Sirona freaks out, realising that it means she just killed someone. She throws up and starts shaking. Irdien gets put off by the clear presence of violet drug residue in the vomit. Adrian and Jak tries to calm Sirona down, resulting in her and Jak getting into an argument that ends with Jak expressing his wishes to marry Irdien in an attempt to demonstrate that one doesn't always have the control to get or do what they want. Finally, they agree to bury the Kobolds in the mine.
While Jak prepares the bodies, Sirona excuses herself to pray. Her godly grandmother visits her, practically scolds her and tells her she must toughen up, but it is meant in a tender loving way.
Jak and Sirona read a poem over the dead and lights some incense. Somehow Jak, in his new calling as a Death priest, can tell that the spirits have found peace. But he doesn't share this information with anyone. Instead, Jak tries to make Sirona laugh to distract her from the traumatic experience. It succeeds, but then Irdien criticises them both for taking the situation so lightly, making Sirona feels worse again. As Jak players a drow inspired burial tune, Sirona contemplates if she should wait outside with Capper instead since this clearly is more than she can stomach.
