We don't talk about fight club

March 10, 2022

While Sirona and L are inside the tavern talking with the Pub owner of The Gauntlet, Adrian asks Irdien for the cursed dagger. Irdien reminds him that they buried it in the portal and asks what he plans to do with it. He hopes to eliminate the curse that leaches off the healing magic cast in its presence. The dagger's origin and how it may affect Sirona to see it again come up as the next topic, leading to a brief discussion of how much they both hate what Pearl did to their cleric. Hearing the badmouthing of a powerful Amora, Zach, who is currently under a disguise self spell,  becomes greatly offended and demands an apology, something Adrian is not prepared to give. Zach screams and attacks Adrian with a sleep spell, which a nearby guard notices. The guard asks if there's a problem and Adrian, who quickly gets back up on his feet, tells him that he is fine but that he's never seen this wizard before. The guard asks Zach to follow him away from the Monster hunter and Irdien. After Irdien tells him to cooperate, Rose meekly follows. The guard takes him back to the town gate, trying to explain to the apparent foreigner in pigeon common that what he did was probably not the best idea and that he should leave the Monster hunters alone. Rose nods and makes sure to escape the polite deescalating guard by casting ghost sounds and quickly ducking behind someone passing through and dropping his disguise spell. It works. The guard looks around, mighty confused about the disappearance of the man he was just talking to.
Getting tired of waiting, Irdien, Adrian and Zach make their way to the Gauntlet pub only to be informed that L has signed up for tonights fighting game. So far, there's nobody drunk enough to challenge the dragon spawn, but after maybe three hours of waiting, they have found a dwarf named Gulbeck. He is a unit of solely muscle mass. They are soon bets being placed on the competitors. Finally, Adrian puts five gold on Labrat to win.
The fight is short, lasting approximately only 9 seconds, but both L and Gulbeck each get in good hits on their opponents in that time. L is naturally victorious to nobody in the party's surprise. Adrian eagerly steps up to cast heal on her, getting to show off his recently reclaimed abilities, while Sirona heals the unconscious dwarf lying defeated in the dirt. Then the pub owner excitedly explains that Labrat is the winner and that her drinks are free. Meanwhile, a young apple peddler tries his luck by squeezing into their view and offering his goods. It's suddenly clear to everyone that Sirona has gone very pale since the fight ended. She starts to call for L and looks very disoriented faintly. Labrat asks if she wants to go back to the school, and Sirona nods, apologising for running everyone's fun. Considering that the drinks here are shit compared to Sindri's pub, the group doesn't mind leaving.
Iriden, who's not satisfied with Sirona's account of how the tavern owner told her and L that Jak has left town, quickly makes sure to double-check the source before they go. She gets the same information as Sirona had. He guesses that the bard has left further into the dwarven kingdom, possibly heading towards Shadow Port, but that is mere speculation on his part.
On the way back to the school, Irdien duck into The Cats Curious and leaves her report. The woman doesn't seem thrilled by her story that Jak is a harmless scorned musician, but she pays Irdien for her work. Meanwhile, Sirona recounts what she seems to think is a bad dream to Labrat about her friend being beaten up and looked up behind bars. L says that she remembers this too, making Sirona even more confused as this doesn't seem to fit her narrative.
Back at the school, Adrian visits the Headmaster, asking if he can use his blood leaching ring to uncurse the dagger? The Grandmaster says he'll look into it. After vomiting a fair amount, Rose seeks out Pearl. The Master is in a trans when he finds her in her room. She asks him to come closer and hug her, apparently not recognizing him. Panicking, Zach turns into a copy of Adrian. Pearl doesn't seem to notice this and keeps referring to him as Bogan, The first emperor, and it's clear that she treasures the relationship. Rose panics even further and does not dare to refuse her. Luckily, Pearl seems to snap out of it, and she apologises, saying that sometimes old memories play tricks on her. Rose runs out of the room to freaked out to even notice that he's dropped concentration on the disguise spell.
The Next morning Rose has a terrible time during the Morning Workout with Jaz and the other adepts. After the training is over, Sirona finds Jaz, and he gives her the vial with the decoct from the white flower, telling her to drink it once she thinks she's about to die and find a place where she can lock herself up. Sirona heads to Nicodemuses' study, asking him for help, saying she is afraid she will try breaking out with magic if she doesn't have weapons. The professor immediately jumps at the possibility to study her divine magic but is busy right now, saying he'll send for her later today when he has time. Sirona returns to her friends, asking them if they still have the extra pair of Dimitrium shackles, but they have been sold off.
