The girls, Sirona L and Irdien, meet up at the shared dorm for a private breakfast. Rose and Adrian are nowhere to be found. It's assumed that they're probably of on Monster Hunter School duties.
During the breakfast, Sirona takes out the vial of the lavender colored drug and says that since she's planning on going through with breaking free of it tonight, she should no longer have it on her, but she fears what it would do if it gets into the wrong hands. L says she can hold it, guaranteeing Sirona that she would never eat from it. The Dragonborn puts it in a pocket out of sight from Sirona so that the addict won't know precisely where it is.
Not sure what to do for the rest of the day, the girls decide to go back into Tarkett to look at the festival preparation for Vele's night. It's a horrible downpour, so it quickly agrees that they should take cover in Sindri's tavern, the Honeywine Inn.
It's almost empty at this early morning hour, but the girl orders themselves some hot chocolate to drink and sits down at a booth. They chat for a bit, and Irdien stealthily sneaks a piece of candy into Labrat's pocket. Then they play a card game that Sirona ends up winning.
To the girls' surprise, Adrian enters the room, stumbling down the stairs from the chambers for hire. He's heavily hungover, and he mutters something about having returned to the tavern last night to finish the barrel of ale with Sindri. He orders a greasy breakfast and joins the girls. Sirona asks if he wants her to remove his ailment as she did with the barkeep at The Gauntlet, but Adrian declines, saying this is a teachable moment that he should bestow upon them. "Never try to out-drink a dwarf unless you're Labrat."
Since the rain threatens to turn the festival into a mud bath, Sirona walks outside and tries to magically build a crude extinction to Sindri's tavern made up of ice. It's not a masterpiece of construction, but it functions as intended, although slanting a bit.
Irdien takes the opportunity to sell off her crossbow and arrows, and the group enjoys some of the festivals until Sirona says she has to head back to the School, and the others decide to join her.
When they arrive at Nicodemus' lab, the professor proves to have taken significant consideration and brought in a bed and a desk inside the largest of his cadges. He is surprised to see her friends there with her but simply asks them to make sure Sirona doesn't have contraband on her. Adrian is content with merely asking Sirona if she has any drugs left and trusting her answer. Then he sends for a servant to fetch an extra bed so that he can stay in the lab and similarly watch over Sirona as she did for him after his operation. L quickly announces that she's staying too. Nicodemus is displeased with them crowding up his place but says they can stay if they help take notes for his research. Adrian flat out says now to this, so Nicodemus makes sure Rose gets sent down to take notes whenever he can't be present.
As Sirona moves to walk inside the cage, Irdien grabs her and gives her a big hug before Nicodemus can lock her in.
The moment the key is turned, a strange vision comes over Sirona. She sees herself walking into a prison cell to find a man with his slit wrists lying on the floor. She goes pale and nauseous and starts hyperventilating, futilely attempting to reopen the now locked cage door. Irdien quickly reaches for her trembling form through the bars and helps calm Sirona down.
Sirona doesn't manage to sleep at all the first night, but she's doing okay and enjoys her friend's company to pass the time. Irdien visits the library to see if the destroyed and mended books have been returned. They have, and she makes sure to check them out correctly. On her way back to the lab, L stops her at the door and asks for a favor. The girls leave the building, and L tells her that she wants the drug vial destroyed, but she doesn't know how to. They decide that fire is the best solution and build a small pyre outside the school grounds. Once it's gotten hot enough, they pour the dust into the flames. The fire turns to violate in a small crackling firework display for a moment before dying down.
After the second night, it starts getting harder for Sirona. She still can't sleep, and it's beginning to affect her. Irdien fetches a storybook from the library and starts reading it for her. The story follows a kingdom where the king and queen rarely stay, and the reign is in the hands of their two advisers. They use the power to make up ridiculous and expensive fees. A young girl finds out her father used to be a robber. She puts on his clothes and starts taking wealth from the rich to give back to the poor. Her missions get harder to pull off as she meets the prince, disguised as a commoner with whom she falls in love.
On the third day, Sirona looks even worse. Now completely sleep-deprived, she has entirely lost her appetite and only eats when goaded by the others. She asks Irdien to stop reading as the voice feels like pins on her skin. L also notices that there is a strange new smell to her scent. Almost as if it's not Sirona sitting inside the cage. Her worries worsen during day four when something seems to snap inside her usually gentle cleric, and Sirona starts attacking the bars with her ice javelins. Luckily enough, Nicodemus' prepared enchantments specializing in the cold make her unable to break free. Her general physics has grown weak and sickly, and her spells are flimsier than usual. Feeling bleak and anxious about her sister's fate, L leaves the lab and finds a calm place on the school grounds. Sitting down to meditate, she tries to connect to those feelings that her dreams occasionally bring her, and she expresses her dismay and pleads to The Great Gold Wyrm for a way to help Sirona.
That night as L sleeps, the familiar protecting and holy presence of the mighty Icon visits her, and his shielding, reassuring appearance stays when she wakes up. On the fifth day, she finds the unsettling odor gone from Sirona. She still hasn't slept and is exhausted but calmer. The next night something unexpected happens, and Sirona smiles as she falls asleep, no longer feeling any thirst after the evil substance. She sleeps for the entirety of the next day and wakes up on the morning of the seventh of November, feeling more rested but dying for some mouthwatering breakfast.
