News of the captial

April 26, 2020

Whiles waiting for the group to return to the guild house Labrat receives a package addressed to Adrian Maulitz. She also meets Commander Lexington Kane, a Paladin in the Order of the Great Golden Wyrm. From him, she gets a silvery amulet of the golden dragon and gets told what that order stands for. He also leaves his temporary address in The Distiller and The Doe, tavern.

Back at the Temple ruin, the group gathers up some abandoned valuable things. They all go into the joint party fond except a scabbard that Jak o' the Wisp asks to keep and a two-sided Holy symbol to Morena and Lada that Sirona Boyd takes with her. Gideon and Amara leave to Santa Cora with the Noon-wraith's necklace, but first, they take the time to write down a letter of recommendation for the group to hand over to the guild upon arriving at the school.

Reunited Labrat tells the others about the friendly visiting Commander. The group is somewhat septic but since he didn't seem to ask anything off Labrat in return and knows where he lives they calm down a bit. I the delivered package to Adrian is an early birthday present from an old friend. It is a porcelain jug that can produce magical oils to coat your sword and armor.
Adrian takes out the contract he had received for the Wererat and Sirona stars asking questions. She and Adrian do not see eye to eye about killing someone or something without question. Irdien Talvaeth sides with Sirona and Adrian eventually come forth with the information that the contract is from The Three. Seeing as they are the patrons of monsters, the fact that they want the Wererat killed speaks for him having done something to warrant that sentence.

During the confrontation, Jak pops out to meet with his contact, Rumwald Paige, alone. Rumwald is the Wererat depicted on Adrian's contract, but Jak doesn't care. He asks Rumwald how things are in the empire regarding his own predicament and learns that his beloved was captured and executed. Heartbroken Jak returns to the guild house and immediately goes to bed. Irdien goes to check up on him and leaves some candy for consolation after deciding not to trespass Jaks wishes to cry alone.

Early in the morning, Jak disappeared again to meet with Rumwald discussing a possibility for him to get away on a boat towards Shadowport. The rest of the group gets ready to head into town and sell loot from the Temple and maybe buy some new equipment for Irdien.

A cart gets toppled over, and a woman screams out in terror as a sudden mob of Zombies overruns the market square where Jak is meeting his contact. Jak tries escaping with Rumwald by turning them both into Wisps, but he doesn't manage to extend the power to Rumwald, so instead, he seals off the alleyway and blasts the zombies with music.

Adrian takes off running towards the screams followed by Irdien, Labrat and Sirona. They enter the market square, and Adrian immediately starts fighting a large cluster of Zombies. A priestess who is being chased by a zombie almost gets tackled, but Labrat intercepts saving the woman's life. They fight cuts them off from aiding Adrian directly, but Sirona invokes a spell that places protection over him. Despite this, Adrian falls to the ground, Zombies trying to tear him apart for food. Sirona focuses all she has and sends magical charges of healing light into him, and Adrian gets back up with Irdien by his side.

In the meantime, Jaks gets hit by a pumpkin thrown in his face. He retaliates by setting a cart on fire and firing an acid arrow at the half-pumpkin-zombie. He casts a confusion spell on it, making the Zombie stumble down and accidentally attack the one fighting with Labrat. Labrat is starting to look worse for wear, but still won't let anything get past her.

Being entirely out of energies for any more healing spells Sirona managed to joust her javelin of faith into the Zombie, that has almost worn Labrat down, hard enough for it to explode into a million tiny gory pieces. The last Zombie standing getting ready also to attack Labrat gets suddenly slashed from above as Irdien comes flying off the rooftop. It falls into a heap of guts and flesh.
The battle is over, but Adrian knocks another arrow aiming at Rumwald who instead of fleeing, has remained to help the wounded civilians.
