Arlissa Thentstars chanting some form of incantation. Labratruns up and breaths lightning on her followed by Adrian Maulitzthat managed to get in a good hit with his sword. Jak o' the Wisp tries to shoot Arlissa with one of his acid arrows but misses giving her the time she needs to complete her spell to awaken two gargoyles in the adjacent room. Then she teleports out from her office and shoots another spell at Jak. The attack is followed up by the two gargoyles moving in on the bard. The first one claws and bites at him, but Sirona Boydsteps in the way of the second, protecting him and sends him a heal. As Irdien Talvaeth moves up to help her two allies in a challenging situation, the back door opens in the office, and two agents step out. They both immediately send off a spell at Labrat and Adrian. Adrian manages to deflect the burst with his sword, but Labrat takes the full force. Not missing a beat however Labrat retaliates, charging the newcomers. As they fire off their spells, Adrian notices that the agents look sickly and bony drawing the concussion that they must be undead.
Jak whispers something about the The Prince of Shadows under his breath and turns into a wisp, flying above the gargoyles and getting the drop on Arlissa. He wrestles her to the ground, but Arlissa teleports again over to the table. She unleashes a terrible scream in the form of dead tortured souls at Irdien and Sirona. The shrieks feel like they could shatter their bones. Sirona ignores her distress and priorities healing Irdien before herself. One of the agents moves in to attack Irdien while the other fight with Adrian. Labrat runs after the first one and knocks him unconscious.
Meanwhile, Adrian talks the other agent down and tells him to get back into the back office storage room. He then runs up to Sirona to try and help. Jak pulls out his lute and preforms another blast of music enough to shatter on of the gargoyles into pieces. He then jumps after Arlissa, who's gotten dazed by the tune. Jak grapples her, tying her up with the fabrics of his pants after getting out of them in a purely fantastic feat of acrobatics and dexterity. The remaining gargoyle attacks Sirona managing to bite her dress to Jak's complete fury. Irdien finishes the aggressive statue off with a deep cut of her sword.
Enraged by the feeling of all tortured souls, Sirona walks up to the restrained woman. She slaps her a couple of times while screaming at her. Adrian and Labrat interrogates the agent in the storage unit, who turns out to be a fourteen-year-old kid named Kevin.
While Labrat holds the kid to make sure he won't try anything, Adrian starts going through Arlissa's desk and uncovers two disturbing notes. The notes prove that Garados Kessmiris behind it all.
Just as Jak is confirming that Arlissa has a tattoo of the symbol of The Litch King over her heart, three mages rush in. Jak shows them the tattoo, and they realize that the group is not the enemy.
One of the mages introduces himself as Ernas, the head of the Mithril school. As the other two mages take away Arlissa and her henchmen he stays behind to offer the group a reward and asks them to apprehend Kessemir for an additional sum. He also insists on paying them for their silence as rumors of The Lamp Lights Guilds involvement would reflect poorly on them. The group accepts the reward and quest. The working theory is that Kessemir is hiding away in his laboratory that probably is connected to his store. Ernas gives the group a Speaking Stone that they can use to contact him when they have completed their task.
