House Valori
A member of the Council of Nine.
Considered to be an upstart, House Valori has refused to fit the political mold. The faction is controlled by Lord Farhan Valori who rose to prominence after investing significant funds (that his house supposedly did not have...) to erect the Great Lift and skyrocket his mercantile business. "Baron" Valori was once a military commander and highly ranked among the Obsidian Fangs.
He maintains a fleet of merchant ships in defiance of the Rinwar family and resists all their attempts to control his business (or the businesses of those who side with him).
House Teren are no more pleased with House Valori, since the Lord refuses to side with them, some say simply because of their strong ties to the Everlasting Flame and the Edge bureaucracy. Valori prefers that he and those who side with him be left alone.
He has been able to maintain privacy through his influence in the military circles, and his current control of the Great Lift (which taxes any other merchants using it. He hopes to gain more power and wring important trade concessions from the Everlasting Flame.
To reach this goal, he tries to prevent open strife and silence any turmoil. Preventing problems keeps other families from gaining power.

- Admiral Hyraskos, the newly minted chief of the Overwatch Air Forces.
- The Baron's son, Sygori. Unfortunately, word is that the boy is simple-minded and foolish, much to his father's disgust.
