Overview
Early Life
Lyra is from a clan of Eladrin that spend their time traveling through the worlds. During most of her youth, her family discovered Suriel and spent most of her early life in the area. She grew up near a temple of Laia and spent her days without chores exploring the temple. She became close with the head priest and temple paladins, before deciding with her parents to take up studying the church’s faith. She learned the rites and rituals of Laia, and continued it when her family went back to their home. Vaguely remembering her time home and in the wilds, Lyra returned to Suriel several years before the campaign. So much had changed, she decided to take up roots in Ferry, the quaint little river town making her feel a lost nostalgia. She now spends most of her days helping the town, traveling the wilds, and riding the rivers.
Choices and Experience
Due to how religion is viewed, and how scarce magic is, Lyra decides to hide her cleric nature for a more physical aspect. Returning to the wilds, she decided that becoming a ranger would best allow her to follow Laia. In the wilds, she could practice the rites and rituals that she learned from her teachers. She does this in tiny glades found throughout the deep Red Wood, taking care that she is alone when practicing. During her early days in the Red Wood, she found a baby Blood Hawk, and not finding its nest, decided to keep him with her, naming him Orion. He follows her through the sky when he learns how to fly, and is her loyal companion through her time in Suriel.
Lyra’s decisions to travel the wild and act as an errand girl has given her a reputation through the Red Wood. Known to do tasks for good compensation, she is known to be fair and reliable. Her relationships with various townfolk have endeared her to the townsfolk and allowed for her to be viewed in a friendly light, as Eladrin are seldomly seen in Suriel. People readily come to her if they need help, and she is usually quick about completing it for them.
Due to how frequent her trips into town become, she becomes fast friends with a local family, who own the bakery in Ferry. Hanging out in their home/bakery, it became her base of sorts, where she would go when she was in town and not on an errand. Locals know it as the place to find her, and any missive where she is needed can reach her there. When she is there and not working, she spends her time hanging out with Iona or teaching Gelus and Felicia how to hunt and travel the woods. With her time traveling becoming more frequent, she makes a point to come visit whenever she’s in the area.
Just because she has settled down around Ferry doesn’t mean she isn’t on the lookout for strange happenings. Lyra is very interested in what happened to magic and the religions she remembers sprawling the basin. She is curious about any stories that appear to be more than some little phenomenon, as well as any vestiges of temples that used to cover the land.
Short-Term Goals: Lyra’s main focus for now is surviving in a world where what she remembers isn’t the same, and hanging out with the Juren family, who she has become awfully fond of.
Long-Term Goals: Lyra strives to discover what happened to the world, to the gods, and to magic in general. She is interested whenever she hears about a strange place, and when a phenomenon occurs nearby. She wants to know what happened long ago, to the years that the world can’t remember. She also wants to know what changed about Laia, why the connection with her is stranger than the world.
Relationships
Iona Juren: The main baker in Ferry, Iona first met Lyra when she was just discovering changes in the basin. Intrigued by this strange traveler, Iona brought her to her home and welcomed her into her home. She owns the bakery, and employs some townspeople to help since her husband died after her son was born. She becomes a good friend of Lyra’s, going so far as using her bakery as a hub for any requests people bring for her. She is a headstrong woman, who doesn’t take anything from anyone, as she gets enough from her children.
Felicia and Gelus Juren: Iona’s two children. Felicia (12) is a headstrong girl who minds her brother and is awe-struck by Lyra. Gelus (9) is a timid young boy who stays a steady shadow of Felicia, Lyra and Iona. The children have known Lyra since they were young, so she has become an aunt for them. The children both take lessons with Lyra on how to travel the woods and archery, as Iona finds them gainfully employed while she works. When not with their mother or Lyra, they play with other children from the town. Whenever Lyra has to leave Orion behind, she usually leaves him with the children, as Orion is amused with their antics and can usually get Gelus out of his shell.
Orion: A young Blood Hawk that Lyra found when it was a chick. Orion is a steadfast companion of Lyra, often following her on her travels unless preoccupied with the Juren children. He often can be seen flying high above the woods or Ferry, a clear indicator of where Lyra is, if you know what you’re seeing. He is an avid hunter, often catching rabbits and mice to bring to Lyra. he is also a greedy bird, watching eagerly as she smokes the meat into strips of jerky for him to beg for later. He understands the language well enough to try to communicate in charades, much like he sees the children play the game to understand. He is also dramatic, giving a very human-like expressionism where a regular wild hawk should not be able to.
Marshal Narun Bazu: A stern and disciplined Sajani, Lyra has dealings with him frequently enough. Whenever something needs to be done in the woods, or an escort is needed for his men, the Marshal usually finds Lyra to assist where he and his men cannot.
Old Man Vur: An old weathered riverman sajani, grumpy, who knows everything about the river, Lyra usually finds him a good story-teller while on ferry jobs. His suspicious nature of certain phenomena amuses her, knowing that what he is superstitious of is magic. Lyra finds him and his people a good working good, and often rides their ferry when going up or down the river for jobs afar or in the next town.
Personality Traits
Lyra is often aloof and distant, not really interacting with people well. However, that doesn’t stop people from talking to her, as she just “has one of those faces”. Not one to beat around the bush, she tends to be blunt and quick with her words, wanting to get things over with quickly. Once she warms up to a person though, she tends to loosen up and joke around.
