Nations of the Ember Line

Nations of the Ember Line are a loose confederation of Tiefling clans bound by oath-roads—spirit-recognized routes that trade truce and water for promises kept. Each clan keeps its own rites and elders, but the Ember Line binds them into one traveling polity: cairns mark the law, cords of passage show who may drink or bear arms, and dust-courts settle disputes with witness spirits. Their aim isn’t conquest; it’s continuity—keeping the roads awake, the graves undisturbed, and the old bargains honored even as rails and missions bite into the land.

Their mark—a flame atop a stacked cairn with a winding trail—is daubed in ochre on doors, packboards, and waystones. The flame is memory and vigilance; the cairn is law; the trail is the oath itself: winding but unbroken. To outsiders it’s a warning and a promise: honor the cord and the road will guide you; break it, and the dust remembers.
