Clocktower Works

Clocktower Works is the Iron Gospel Railways headquarters in Coalreach—a single, vast skyscraper that dominates the skyline. Its four-faced clock is calibrated to the rail timetable and is visible from almost anywhere in the city; bells mark departures, arrivals, and shift changes. Inside, the lower floors handle dispatching, telegraph control, payroll, claims, and company courts; the mid-levels house engineering bureaus and patent offices; the highest levels are executive suites and the board chamber. The Works also holds the company’s central vaults: bullion, bearer notes, share ledgers, and charter deeds kept in reinforced, warded vault rooms beneath the tower.

Security is mechanical first, magical second. Patrol routes are covered by advanced automatons—tracked, bipedal, and ceiling-mounted types—with whistle codes, shock batons, and nonlethal gas canisters; Human and Dwarf wardens run the command posts. Access is by badge and time slot: staff elevators, visitor galleries, and sealed freight lifts are all keyed to the clock. The structure itself is overbuilt in steel and stone, fireproofed, and lightning-grounded; the Works is taller than anything else in the Dark West and rivals the famous wizard towers of the Eastern Kingdoms. Visitors can tour the public gallery (a model rail room and dispatch balcony), but anything beyond that is appointment-only and under watch.
