High Elves are rare in the The Dark West and widely distrusted. Back east in Veylor they sit near the top of the order—educated, long-lived, and usually Gifted—so folk assume any high elf out here has a reason they’re not saying. Some claim exile or a fallen patron; others chase research the Scepterate forbids, or profits the rails promise. Whatever the story, most towns watch them for signs of arrogance, sorcery, or quiet manipulation.
Culturally they carry tower habits: formal speech, careful dress, and a reflex for written law and precise record-keeping. Many have basic training in wards, divination, or ritual procedure; even the “ungifted” tend to read, write, and calculate circles around locals. A high elf who earns trust becomes a valuable mediator or scholar. One who leans on old authority finds doors shut and hands near holsters.
