Intruding Nightmare

Side Quest

The Party crossed into the Stormwoods where they encountered the remnents of the last Veloren elves who had stayed behind while the majority had fled to find refuge within the cities of Rivermond. The party were informed by the young Nelvana Umeren that the woods had changed and something dark is growing within one of their temples. Her people had sealed it with powerful magic however dark root like tendrils are slowly pushing through the cracks of the temple. At the temple they met one of the Plain Lords from Vikholm, they were guarding the entrance to the temple and refused to let the Party pass through and nearly killed one of them to prove it. Keira attempted to sneak by to get a better look, she touched a tendril before getting struck by the Plain Lord. The party were allowed to leave the place alive and has since seen those same black tendrils appear elsewhere.

  1. The party discovered that William Vicarin brought a group of sellswords into the Stormwoods and sought out the Veloren elves for the purpose of entering the Temple. He had many of them killed while he forced his way into the Temple. He found something, or someone on the other side and left gravely wounded. Whatever he did appeared to have caused the growing of the black tendrils.
  2. Nelvana Umeren refused to reveal what was on the other side and appeared to know little of the workings of the Temple other than noting that the temple gate had three indents meant for three seals. The party had found one within a tomb of a Grail Knight which they found within the Stormwoods.
  3. Varis have had visions and a nightmarish encounter with a fiend that seemingly tried to get to him though a nightmare made up of fragments of various memories. Within the nightmare the walls and various objects where covered with the very same black tendrils they had seen.
    1. The nightmare encounter appeared to happen thanks to a mysterious black orb Varis was gifted by an unknown figure.
  4. The party met up with William Vicarin in Whitechapel just before he was about to leave. The party had a brief moment with him where he tossed one of the stone seals to them given he had no use for it any longer. He appeared to be aware of the nightmarish fiend, even haunted by it but did not elaborate on it. The party let him out of their grasp and he vanished into the night. Leaving the party with nothing but the second seal.

A Sudden Encounter

After entering the Riverwoods the party came across a man who was calling out to his partner who was missing. The couple was studying an old ruin and the party began to investigate the place and discovered an old teleportation circle that had been desecrated by having abyssal symbol carved into the circle. They realized that the woman had most likely teleported somewhere, Varis took out his black orb and the man pointed out that his girl had a similar one but slightly larger. It made her find the ruin in the first place, Varis walked onto the circle and noticed that the orb was vibrating and the circle was starting to turn. The party went onto the circle and suddenly they all got teleported.

They found themselves in a dark cavern, shortly after they discovered large black root trees and they realized they are somewhere in the abyss. They explored the area until they found a large gate and before it they spotted the woman being slowly sacrificed to the gateway by some shadowy creatures. The party tried to reach them while Keira Everron tried to interrupt it in her bat form. However she was struck and reverted into her normal form before seeing the fiend Gorrekoth appear before her. Combat ensued with the fiends, it was a tough fight but the woman was lost in the midst of it and eventually the party managed to best Gorrekoth and decapitated him. Varis took the head of the fiend but he also heard the voice of it in his head saying he would be back.

The Destruction of Gorrekoth’s Heart

In the climactic battle against William Vicarin who had become the Flesh Tyrant, the party uncovered one source of his power—an abyssal heart, black as void, stolen from the nightmare fiend Gorrekoth. As the heart pulsed with dark energy, it attempted to root itself into Ves, while Gorrekoth's voice invaded Varis' mind, demanding its return.

With the Flesh Tyrant desperately trying to reclaim it, the battle raged on. Oliver Rocks and Tina Rocks held the creature at bay, while Amelia Vicarin and Varis Brightheart took aim at the cursed heart. Despite the fiend’s psychic assaults, Varis fired a series of precise shots, weakening its hold. Amelia followed up with empowered arrows, shattering the heart in Ves' grasp. With its abyssal heart destroyed, the Flesh Tyrant lost its might, unraveling into nothingness. Though victorious, the party was left with an unsettling truth—Gorrekoth had not been defeated, only denied. His wrath still lingers, and the consequences of destroying his heart remain unknown.
