Frostbite Gemstone

Component / Weapon

Frostbite Gemstones are rare and enigmatic arcane crystals originating from the frozen plains of Roahirii and Jormin. These gemstones possess a radiant icy glow and are nearly indistinguishable from one another to the untrained eye. However, the Roahirii variant is exceptionally dangerous to handle without proper precautions, capable of inflicting severe frostbite and even death upon unwary adventurers. Many have tragically lost their lives mistaking the deadly Roahirii variant for the harmless Jormin variant. Frostbite Gemstones can occasionally be found in the northern regions of Kalamar, often referred to as shooting stars when they crash into the surface. They are also known to be hoarded by White Dragons and Silver Dragons, who prize their frosty power.

The origins of Frostbite Gemstones are shrouded in mystery and speculation. Some believe that they are remnants of celestial phenomena, such as meteorites or comet fragments, that have fallen from the cosmos and crashed into the frozen landscapes of Roahirii and Jormin. Others theorize that Frostbite Gemstones are formed through natural magical processes unique to these frigid regions, drawing upon the elemental energies of ice and cold. Regardless of their origins, Frostbite Gemstones remain highly sought after for their rare and potent magical properties.

Due to their rarity and magical properties, Frostbite Gemstones are highly prized by collectors, adventurers, and magic users alike. Artisans and craftsmen are willing to pay top coin for these precious crystals, eager to incorporate them into their creations and unlock their full potential. However, the dangers associated with the Roahirii variant can deter all but the most daring and skilled individuals from seeking out Frostbite Gemstones, making them highly sought after and valuable commodities in the world of Midora.

Properties: Frostbite Gemstones possess potent arcane properties related to cold and ice magic. When properly harnessed and utilized by skilled artisans, these gemstones can be incorporated into various magical items to imbue them with cold resistance or enhance their abilities with icy enchantments. However, due to the dangers posed by the Roahirii variant, handling Frostbite Gemstones requires caution and expertise. Only those with the necessary knowledge and protective measures should attempt to work with these precious crystals.

Uses: Frostbite Gemstones have a wide range of potential uses in the hands of skilled artisans and magic users. They can be used to craft magical items, such as weapons, armor, or accessories, that provide cold resistance to the wearer or imbue their attacks with frosty power. Additionally, Frostbite Gemstones can be utilized in rituals or spells to augment their effects with icy magic, allowing casters to freeze their enemies or create barriers of frost. However, working with Frostbite Gemstones requires careful handling and precise craftsmanship, as the deadly Roahirii variant can pose a significant risk to those who mishandle it.

Roahirii Variant: The Roahirii gemstone is very invasive to its surrounding area as it can freeze anything in an instant if it gets hit. People have unknowingly tried to crack it or remove it with force only to be trapped in its devouring frostbite. Leaving nothing but a frozen corpse behind. It can be use as a thrown weapon if dealt with utmost care. Each creature in a 40-foot-radius sphere centered on that gemstone must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 14). A target takes 5d10 Cold damage and is magically frozen solid* on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

*Targets who failed are considered Petrified. The gemstone recharges at dusk.

Jormin Variant: The Jormin gemstone is much easier and dorment when it comes to its magical properties. It is a fine gemstone used generally by the rich of Kalamar as trinkets, but has later been put to use by Artificers for inventions dealing with the cold mines and frost seasons. It can be used to enchance tools and armor to endure extreme cold. It can be turned into a thrown weapon much like the Roahirii variant with some work.
