Molten Gemstones are intriguing and versatile gemstones that embody elemental fire in a solid form. Found and mined within volcanic regions, these gemstones emit a constant warmth, making them highly prized commodities in mining cities and towns. Molten Gemstones are popular among both the working class and the upper class, as they are commonly used to keep homes and establishments warm during colder seasons. Additionally, artisans and artificers have begun to explore new applications for these gemstones, incorporating them into constructs and engines that run on steam, harnessing their fiery energy for various purposes.
The origins of Molten Gemstones lie deep within volcanic mines, where the intense heat and pressure of molten magma transform ordinary minerals into these fiery gemstones. They are typically found in dormant states, their fiery nature concealed beneath a hardened exterior. However, when exposed to specific conditions or disturbances, Molten Gemstones can become unstable, leading to explosive reactions that release waves of searing heat and flames.
Despite their common availability in mining regions, Molten Gemstones are highly valued for their versatility and utility. Their ability to provide warmth and energy makes them essential commodities in colder climates, while their potential for use in crafting weapons and objects with fire-based properties has led to increased demand among adventurers, mercenaries, and magic users. However, the volatile nature of Molten Gemstones means that they must be handled with caution, and only skilled individuals are capable of safely harnessing their power for constructive purposes.
Properties: Molten Gemstones possess unique properties that make them invaluable in a variety of applications. When embedded into constructs or engines, they can enhance efficiency and provide a sustainable source of heat and energy. However, Molten Gemstones must be handled with care, as they have the potential to explode and unleash hellfire if subjected to certain pressures or conditions. Despite this risk, skilled forgers and artificers have learned to harness the destructive power of Molten Gemstones, embedding them into weapons and objects to imbue them with fire damage or resistance to fire.
Uses: Molten Gemstones have a wide range of uses in various industries and crafts. In mining communities, they are used to provide warmth and comfort in homes and workplaces, serving as reliable sources of heat during colder climates. Artisans and artificers utilize Molten Gemstones in the creation of steam-powered constructs and engines, capitalizing on their fiery energy to drive machinery and power devices. Additionally, weaponsmiths and craftsmen embed Molten Gemstones into weapons and armor, infusing them with fire-based abilities that enhance their effectiveness in combat.
Light Pressure: When under light pressure the gemstone will begin to crack and glow. For the next 1d4 minutes the air around it begins to boil. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that gemstone must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 14). A target takes 8d6 Fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The gemstone will return to its dorment state after 10 minutes.
High Pressure: When under high pressure the gemstone will begin to crack and bleed molten lava. For the next 1d6 minutes the ground and air begins to melt under intense heat. The gemstone explodes and covers the area in lava. Each creature in a 30-foot-radius sphere centered on that gemstone must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 16). A target takes 10d10 Fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. (If a creature is prone they take 18d10 Fire damage as they are submerged in lava.) The gemstone gets destroyed under High Pressure.
