Wrath of Gylder

Huge Mythical

According to legend, the Wrath of Gylder is a terrifying creature that guards the underground rivers of Rivermond with a fierce determination. It is said that its body is made of water but is solid like steel, and it can move through the river as easily as a fish. Its eyes are said to glow with an otherworldly light, and its roar can be heard echoing through the tunnels of the underground rivers. The creature is known to be highly territorial and aggressive towards any intruders who venture into its domain. It is said to attack without warning, striking with powerful water blasts and using its body to create shock waves that can knock even the strongest of swimmers off their feet. The Wrath is also said to be highly intelligent, using its knowledge of the river to outmaneuver and outwit its prey.

As a perpetual being, the Wrath is effectively immortal and can regenerate from any injury. Its connection to the river is said to be so strong that it can draw power from the water, making it nearly invincible in battle. However, it is also said that the creature's weakness lies in its reliance on the river. If the water in the river is polluted or dried up, the creature's power will be greatly diminished. There are many tales about the creature's favorite prey, with some saying it preys on humans who venture too close to the river, while others claim it hunts the fish that populate the underground rivers. Some even believe that the creature feeds on the souls of those who drown in the river, using their energy to fuel its own power. Despite the many tales and myths surrounding the Wrath of Gylder, few have actually seen the creature and lived to tell the tale. Those who have encountered it describe it as a fearsome and awe-inspiring sight, one that is not easily forgotten.

A small tribe of Otterfolk who lived around a lake entrance to the underground rivers had lived in fear of the Wrath for weeks. They knew that the creature was the guardian of the rivers and that it would attack anyone who attempted to enter without proper reverence. The otterfolk had discovered that gifting shells to the Wrath was the only way for them to appease the creature and ensure safe passage through the underground rivers. They would gather shells from rivers and lakes near their settlement and leave them at the entrance to the underground rivers. The Wrath, though a fearsome and powerful creature, seemed to have a strange fondness for the shells gifted to it by the otterfolk. It would collect them and bring them back to its lair, where they piled up in small mountains. The otterfolk never dared to enter the lair of the Wrath, but they could see the glimmer of the shells through the cracks and crevices of the rocks that formed the entrance.

One day, a group of adventurers appeared from the underground river, at first they claimed to have dealt with the Wrath. However not long afterwards the Wrath emerged from the river and attacked them with ferocity. The battle was long and grueling, but in the end, the adventurers managed to defeat the Wrath. As a trophy of their victory, Varis Brightheart of the adventureres cut off the creature's horn. They later discovered that the horn had magical properties and had it forged into two powerful swords known as the Tidal Twins. The otterfolk were grateful to the adventurers for defeating the Wrath and freeing them from the creature's reign of terror. However, they were also concerned that without the Wrath as a guardian, the underground rivers could become a more dangerous place. They then witnessed the body of the Wrath vanish back into the waters, where it once again will reappear and guard the underground rivers.
