Corpse Spider

Medium-Large Monstrosity

The Cadavcasa Spider or more commonly known as the Corpse Spider or Cadaver Keeper is a unique parasitic arachnid that has struck fear in many children and adults. Their existence is a mystery and is believed to come from the darkest parts of the feywild.

They are solitary creatures and spend majority of theirs lives inside fresh animal corpses or in rare cases humanoid corpses. The spider will continuously grow throughout its lifecircle, at a certain size its legs will burst through the corpse it has taken as its home and the spider will carefully move to find a suitable place to release its brood.

It will try to seek out various caves and sometimes basements of abandoned homes. There it will lay rest and have its eggs lay dormant in the air much like spores until any unfortunate creature breathes in the air. Majority of eggs will be eaten by other insects or pests. If an egg hatches outside it must find itself a host quickly as it wont survive on its own. They are able to enter open wounds or crawl into any orifices. The host then provides the nourishment which is essential for it to live.

Once the host is dead or is about to die, the Spider will enter its last metamorphosis of bonding with the host body. The spider will keep the corpse fresh, by keeping it clean as long as possible. It has the unatural ability of morphing itself to the hosts nerves and muscles making it able to completely puppeteering the corpse to its own will.

Lair and Lair Actions

It will not show any symptomes directly, however after their first rest they will begin to feel extra hungry and feel the sense of starvation far quicker.

If the creature fail to remedy this within the first week, they will begin to feel sick and gain 1 point of Exhaustion and have disadvantage of death saves. Upon the sixth week the creature will fall dead and becomes another host for a Corpse Spider.

To get rid of the bodily infestation the creature must take Antitoxin.
