Mimicry Blade

The Mimicry Blade is an ancient and cursed sword, known for its ability to change form to suit its wielder. The origin of this enigmatic weapon is shrouded in mystery, and it appears differently to each person who gazes upon it. The sword’s powers stem from an old and powerful spirit imprisoned within the blade, a spirit that craves the taste of victory and the admiration of its wielder.

Due to its unique and mysterious nature, the Mimicry Blade is valued at approximately 25,000 gold pieces. Its ability to adapt its form and the conditions of its curse make it a highly sought-after weapon.

Legends speak of a powerful spirit bound within the Mimicry Blade, a spirit that once roamed free and bested countless warriors. The blade has passed through the hands of many wielders, each believing they could master its power. However, the sword's true strength comes from the spirit's desire for victory and admiration. Many have fallen to its curse, unable to satiate the spirit’s vanity and thus rendered ineffective in battle.

Attunement:

To attune to the Mimicry Blade, a character must spend a short rest holding the weapon and earn its admiration by praising its beauty or abilities. This praise must be heartfelt, or the spirit within the blade will reject the wielder.

Special Abilities:

  • Mimicry: The Mimicry Blade grants a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. When you make a melee attack with this sword, you can decide whether it deals slashing or piercing damage due to its ability to mimic other blades.
  • Form Shifting: As a bonus action, the wielder can command the Mimicry Blade to change its form to any type of sword (longsword, shortsword, rapier, etc.). This change remains until the wielder uses another bonus action to alter its form again.
  • Spirit's Vanity: The blade is extremely vain and yearns for admiration from its wielder. Once per short rest, you must praise the sword's beauty or abilities, making a DC 16 Charisma (Persuasion) check to attempt to convince the spirit within to believe you. You gain advantage if you do this in front of other people. On a success, the sword becomes extremely sharp and deadly until your next short rest, granting an additional +1 to attack and damage rolls (for a total of +3). On a failure, the blade becomes blunt for the next hour, imposing a -1 penalty to attack and damage rolls.

Curse:

While attuned to the Mimicry Blade, you are compelled to seek victory and admiration constantly. Failing to praise the blade at least once per day results in the spirit within becoming displeased, imposing disadvantage on all attack rolls made with the weapon until you successfully praise it again.
