Despite their differing paths in life, Saki and Kenji maintain a close relationship. They regularly exchange letters and gifts, and Kenji visits the Pond Inn whenever he is in the area. Saki is always happy to see his brother, but he can't help feeling uneasy around him. Kenji's presence reminds Saki of the violent and unpredictable nature of the Samurai, and he worries about the safety of his guests and employees.
Despite his concerns, Saki is not afraid to stand up to his brother. In fact, Saki has bested Kenji in several duels over the years, much to the surprise of everyone in the Yurami Clan. No one can explain how a simple Innkeeper could best a trained Samurai, but Saki has always had a natural talent for swordplay. Kenji is not bitter about his losses to his brother, though. He loves Saki dearly and respects him as a person, even if he doesn't agree with his lifestyle choices. Despite his brother's position and the clan's attempts to recruit him, Saki has always been content with running his Inn with his wife Taro. He enjoys providing a warm and welcoming place for travelers to rest, and he takes pride in the beauty and cleanliness of the Inn's courtyard and pond. While he loves his brother and respects the Samurai, Saki is happy to live a peaceful life away from the violence and politics of the clan.
