The Soulstealer is a dark katana crafted by the renowned blacksmith Kawasaki Yurumani in his early days. Commissioned by a ruthless Samurai thirsting for power, the blade embodies the essence of death and darkness. Its obsidian-black blade seems to absorb all light around it, and its edge shimmers with an eerie glow reminiscent of the souls it has claimed.
The Soulstealer is a rare and infamous relic, coveted by those who seek to harness the power of death. Its market value is difficult to ascertain due to its dark nature, but rumors suggest that its worth could exceed 100,000 gold pieces in the hands of collectors or dark cults.
Forged by Kawasaki Yurumani at the behest of a ruthless Samurai, the Soulstealer was intended to harvest the souls of its victims, granting its wielder dark power and immortality. However, the blade's malevolent nature soon became apparent, leading to regret and remorse on the part of its creator. Lost and found throughout history, the Soulstealer has left a trail of death and despair in its wake, its legend shrouded in darkness.
Attunement:
To attune to the Soulstealer, one must be of evil alignment and willingly embrace the darkness within. The attunement process involves communing with the blade's malevolent spirit and accepting its insatiable hunger for souls. Once attuned, the wielder becomes bound to the Soulstealer, forever linked to its dark power.
Curse:
The Soulstealer curses its wielder with a constant sense of despair and longing for more power. You have disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws and cannot benefit from any effect that would grant you advantage on such saves.
Special Abilities:
- Masterwork: You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
- Eternal Bond: Once attuned to the Soulstealer, you cannot willingly part with the blade unless you perform a ritual to sever the bond, requiring a rare and costly sacrifice to appease the dark spirit within.
- Aura of Dread: While attuned to the Soulstealer, you emit an aura of dread in a 10-foot radius. Creatures of good alignment that start their turn in this aura must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the start of their next turn.
- Soul Harvest: Whenever you slay a humanoid creature with the Soulstealer, you can choose to absorb its soul. Absorbing a soul grants you temporary hit points equal to the creature's Challenge Rating (minimum of 1) and increases your maximum hit points by the same amount until you finish a long rest.
- Echoes of the Damned: Once per day, you can unleash the trapped souls within the Soulstealer to create a wave of necrotic energy. All creatures within a 30-foot radius must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw, taking 8d8 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Additionally, undead creatures in the area regain hit points equal to half the necrotic damage dealt by this feature.
