Songcrystals are rare, iridescent gemstones that come in various shapes and sizes, from small pebble-like gems to large, faceted stones. These beautiful trinkets possess the magical ability to capture and store sounds or songs. When a bard or musician performs a magnificent piece near a Songcrystal, the gem magically captures and preserves the essence of the performance, emitting a soft, enchanting glow.
The value of a Songcrystal varies significantly based on the fame, talent, and rarity of the performer whose song it holds. Lesser-known performers' Songcrystals might be valued at a few hundred gold pieces, while those containing the melodies of legendary bards can fetch tens of thousands of gold pieces or more.
Songcrystals are said to have been crafted by an ancient order of bards who sought to preserve the world's most beautiful music for eternity. These enchanted gems were highly prized in noble courts and among art collectors. Today, acquiring a Songcrystal is a challenge, as skilled bards often guard them as prized possessions, and they are rumored to be found in ancient ruins, enchanted concert halls, and among the belongings of renowned performers.
