Crystal Alchemical Cauldron

Utility

The Crystal Alchemical Cauldron is a stunningly crafted tool for the practice of alchemy. Made of enchanted crystal, this cauldron is both functional and beautiful. It stands on an elegant metal frame, which supports the delicate yet durable transparent body of the cauldron. Arcane designs etched into the surface pulse with magical energy, softly glowing as the cauldron is used. The cauldron’s lid has a fine mesh filter, perfect for straining impurities during the alchemical process, and its capacity is exactly 1 gallon of liquid.

This cauldron was originally created for the Arcane Academy, to safely teach novice alchemists the foundational elements of potion-making and alchemical transmutation. It ensures that the processes within remain stable and under control, reducing the chances of explosive accidents. Due to its magical nature, the cauldron is capable of producing and assisting in the creation of potions and alchemical compounds that would be beyond the capabilities of most common containers.

The Crystal Alchemical Cauldron is extremely rare, given its magical properties and the craftsmanship involved in its creation. In most markets, it would be valued between 5,000 to 10,000 gp, depending on the availability of magical items and the demand for such advanced alchemical tools.

This masterpiece was designed by a collaboration of master alchemists and enchanters at the prestigious Arcane Academy. The need for a controlled environment to teach delicate magical and alchemical processes led to its creation. Today, it remains a prized tool among alchemists, though very few of these cauldrons exist outside the academy. Legends tell that some of the greatest potions of history, including elixirs that grant eternal youth, were first brewed in one of these enchanted vessels.

Properties:

  • Alchemical Focus: When used as a spellcasting focus for spells that transmute materials or involve liquid components (such as create or destroy water or transmute rock), the Crystal Alchemical Cauldron adds a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls or the spell's save DC.

  • Controlled Brewing: When brewing potions or concoctions, the user gains advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) checks to avoid mistakes, and all potions brewed in the cauldron have a chance to produce 1 additional vial of the same potion. (Roll 1d100, rolling between 1-25 results in an additional vial)

  • Magical Purification: The cauldron’s fine mesh filter has a purifying effect on the contents. Any potion brewed within the cauldron has its potency increased by 1 additional die (such as healing potions restoring +1d4 HP or damaging potions dealing +1d6 additional damage). This bonus applies to any potion brewed in the cauldron.

  • Potion Mastery: The cauldron allows the creation of basic alchemical potions at a faster rate. Brewing a standard healing potion or other common potions takes half the usual time (4 hours instead of 8) when using the Crystal Alchemical Cauldron.

Special Features:

  1. Instant Concoction: Once per long rest, the cauldron can instantly complete the brewing process for a single potion with a value of 100 gp or lower. This allows the alchemist to immediately create a basic potion without waiting the typical brewing time.

  2. Alchemical Knowledge: The cauldron can "remember" up to 5 potion recipes. When the user is attuned, they can mentally consult the cauldron to recall any of the stored recipes, reducing the chance of failure by granting advantage on all checks related to brewing that potion.

Creation Abilities: With the Crystal Alchemical Cauldron, an attuned alchemist can create the following potions or elixirs with the necessary ingredients:

  • Potion of Healing: Requires 25 gp worth of herbs, a glass vial, and 4 hours of brewing time. (Instant with the Instant Concoction feature.)
  • Potion of Greater Healing: Requires 100 gp worth of herbs and 8 hours of brewing time.
  • Alchemist's Fire: Requires 50 gp worth of materials, 4 hours of brewing time, and proficiency in Alchemist's Supplies.
  • Bubble Potion: Requires 500 gp worth of rare herbs, a vial of pure water, and 24 hours of brewing time.
  • Potion of Vitality: Requires 250 gp worth of alchemical ingredients and 16 hours of brewing time.
  • Elixir of Arcane Renewal: Requires 500 gp worth of alchemical ingredients and 16 hours of brewing time.

The cauldron can be used to create most potions, provided the alchemist has access to the proper ingredients and materials.
