Beastmasters' Revel

Celebration

Date: 30th of Femri

Significance: Beastmasters' Revel is a widely celebrated holiday on the 30th of Femri, dedicated to honoring those who work with animals, including farmers, tamers, rangers, and others who dedicate their lives to the care and companionship of beasts. The tradition's origin is rooted in the veneration of the archangel Chorian, a herald of Hunting and Archery within the regions of the Silver Dominion, Rivermond, and Kalamar. Chorian's teachings emphasized a harmonious relationship with nature and the mastery of skills in archery and hunting, which were highly regarded by early communities.

However, the Dominion Church eventually declared Chorian a heretical figure, branding his teachings and followers as blasphemous. This decree led to the prohibition of open celebrations in his name. In response, the tradition was renamed to Beastmasters' Revel, and its true origins were obscured from common knowledge. Despite this, a few adherents still honor Chorian in secret, preserving his legacy through clandestine rituals and ceremonies.

Traditions/Events:

Beastmasters' Revel is marked by a variety of activities that celebrate the bond between humans and animals:

  • Animal Shows: These events are a cornerstone of the holiday, showcasing the beauty, intelligence, and skills of various animals. Participants often bring their pets and trained animals to demonstrate unique abilities, compete in contests, and parade in themed exhibitions.
  • Training Demonstrations: Skilled trainers and tamers provide demonstrations of animal training techniques, sharing knowledge on how to effectively communicate and work with different species. These demonstrations are educational and often interactive, allowing spectators to learn and try their hand at basic training commands.
  • Pet Blessings: Local clergy and spiritual leaders conduct blessing ceremonies for pets and working animals, invoking protection, health, and prosperity for the creatures and their caretakers. These blessings are believed to strengthen the bond between the animals and their owners, ensuring mutual support and companionship.
  • Secret Celebrations: For those who still revere Chorian, secret gatherings are held away from prying eyes. These clandestine ceremonies include recitations of Chorian's teachings, rituals of archery, and the sharing of stories that highlight his wisdom and influence.
