Venomax Tongue Toxin

Utility

Venomax Tongue Toxin is an incredibly potent poison harvested from the tongues of the Venomax lizards native to the perilous jungles of Lunora. Though these lizards are generally docile and non-aggressive towards humanoids, their venom is one of the deadliest natural toxins known. When extracted and preserved correctly, the tongue continues to produce its lethal poison in the bottle for up to 24 hours post-mortem, making it a sought-after ingredient for assassins and poisoners.

The rarity and deadly effectiveness of Venomax Tongue Toxin make it highly valuable on the black market. Each preserved tongue can sell for between 1,000 to 2,500 gold pieces, depending on the region and demand.

The Venomax lizard, despite its fearsome reputation, is a relatively harmless creature unless provoked. Living off insects and small animals, it poses little threat to humanoids. However, its venomous tongue has made it the focus of many dark practitioners and assassins who seek its lethal capabilities. Capturing and extracting the tongue requires skill and precision, as the slightest mishap can result in a fatal bite. This practice is shrouded in secrecy and often performed by those well-versed in handling dangerous creatures. Tales of the Venomax lizard's venom have spread far and wide, cementing its place in the annals of toxicology as a substance to be both feared and respected.

Special Features:

  • Method of Application: Venomax Tongue Toxin can be used in two primary ways:

    • Weapon Coating: When applied to a blade or any piercing or slashing weapon, the poison remains potent for up to 1 hour. A successful hit with the coated weapon delivers the toxin.
    • Ingestion: When mixed into food or drink, the toxin retains its potency until consumed.
  • Effects of the Toxin:

    • Poison Damage: Upon delivery (via weapon or ingestion), the victim suffers 5d6 poison damage.
    • Lethal Poisoning: The victim must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the victim succumbs to the poison and dies within 1d4 turns. On a successful save, the victim survives but is poisoned for 1 hour.
  • Curing the Toxin:

    • Natural Remedies: Due to the extreme lethality of the toxin, natural recovery is unlikely. Immediate medical intervention is required.
    • Magical Healing: Spells such as Lesser Restoration or Greater Restoration can neutralize the toxin if administered before the victim succumbs to its effects. A successful application of Protection from Poison or Antitoxin prior to exposure can provide advantage on the saving throw.
