Evelara and Meliora

The Illidin Twins

Once elegant wizards of a bygone age, Evelara and Meliora Illidin now exist as twisted echoes of their former selves—immortal, undead, and consumed by vanity. Bound to the haunted halls of the Pale Tower, these twin liches lure the living to their doom, all in a vain attempt to reclaim the beauty that death has stolen from them.

Description

The Illidin Twins are inseparable in presence and purpose, their skeletal forms veiled by illusion and fine robes stitched from bygone centuries. Evelara, the more direct and vicious of the two, often leads their confrontations, while Meliora maintains a cold, calculating distance, preferring to manipulate events from the shadows.

Despite their lichdom, they cling to the vestiges of their once-great beauty, adorning themselves with jewelry and cosmetics in a macabre mockery of life. Their tower, long since overtaken by necrotic magic and haunted whispers, is a reflection of their inner torment—gilded, grand, and rotting beneath the surface.

Personality

Vain, obsessive, and cruel, the Illidin Twins are driven by a singular, haunting goal: to reclaim their mortal beauty. They cannot accept the skeletal decay that accompanies their undeath and are willing to commit horrific acts to defy it. Evelara is the more impulsive and emotional of the pair, often acting out in fits of rage or envy. Meliora, in contrast, is restrained and methodical, harboring grudges with icy patience and plotting revenge with calculated precision.

Together, they are elegant but sadistic, their charm as lethal as their spellwork. Their once sisterly bond now borders on co-dependence, twisted by centuries of undeath and shared delusion.

Background

Little is known of Evelara and Meliora’s past beyond the ruined records of Vindrik, the city they once called home. It is believed they were accomplished wizards during the city’s final years, turning to necromancy after Vindrik’s fall in a desperate attempt to preserve themselves.

This led them down the forbidden path of lichdom, granting them immortality at the cost of their humanity. For three hundred years, they haunted the Pale Tower, a sinister spire of bone-white stone where their obsession with physical beauty took a darker form. There, they lured travelers and scholars alike, harvesting body parts and essence in failed attempts to restore their lost grace.

In 913 of the Fourth Age, a party of adventurers known as The Travellers dared to breach the tower. Despite warnings from its mysterious master, they ascended the spire, confronting the sisters. In the battle that followed, Evelara was disfigured by holy water thrown by Amelia, and then struck down by the paladin Bartimaeus with a radiant smite.

Enraged, Meliora cursed Bartimaeus and banished the adventurers from the tower using her powerful teleportation magic, ensuring that their next meeting would be on her terms.

The Travellers would return once more to the Pale Tower, and in a climactic battle at its summit, they succeeded in defeating the twins. Whether this marked the true end of Evelara and Meliora is unknown. Their phylacteries were never found, and whispers persist that the sisters may one day return. What is certain, however, is that they lost their place at the Pale Tower that day.

Their legacy endures—etched into the stones of the ruined tower and the nightmares of those who survived them.
