An invention so wondrous that two cultures across continents claim its origin. In the Vache Kingdom, astrologers and royal scholars call it the Stargazer’s Eye, claiming it was commissioned by an eccentric noble who dreamed of charting the heavens. In the Nagan Empire, wizards and astronomers revere it as the Sky-Mirror, said to reflect the thoughts of the gods through the stars.

Despite the mystery of its true origin, identical designs and variants have been discovered in both lands — suggesting a shared legacy, or perhaps interference by extraplanar forces. The telescope is highly detailed, with lenses that gleam faintly with arcane craftsmanship. It disassembles easily and is stored in a reinforced leather case, along with a sturdy folding tripod.

Properties:

  • Heavy Tool: When set up properly (takes 5 minutes), this telescope allows you to observe celestial phenomena with extreme clarity.
  • Starwatcher’s Precision: Grants advantage on Intelligence (Nature) or Intelligence (Arcana) checks related to astronomy, astrology, planar convergence, or celestial events while actively observing the night sky.
  • Celestial Reading: Once per week, if used for at least 1 uninterrupted hour on a clear night, the Ornate Telescope can reveal a Celestial Omen. Roll on the following table (or have the DM provide a custom message):
d6Celestial Omen
1A falling star streaks across the sky — a portent of sudden change.
2The moons align unnaturally — magic may surge or twist soon.
3You glimpse a constellation not seen for a thousand years.
4A wandering light flickers in the void — someone is watching.
5The stars seem to pulse like a heartbeat — a god stirs in slumber.
6The sky is unnaturally still — a great silence is coming.
