To the folk of Harvest Town,
By order of Mayor Darin Aumersair, I set quill to parchment to inform all residents of several works soon to begin upon our common defenses. The funding for these improvements comes by way of recent property purchases made within our bounds, and the mayor has deemed it right that such coin be turned toward the safety of every household of our town.
The first of these works shall be the raising of new timber fortifications about the central square and those buildings deemed most vital: the Town Hall, the jail, the temple, the provisioner’s hall, and the inn. A pair of watch platforms will be set along the road approaches, and a stout watchtower of timber and stone will be raised not far from the river path, that our rangers and militia may better survey the land.
Repairs and reinforcements shall also be made at the Blackfish River crossing, so that the way may be barred against raiders when need arises. The militia will be freshly equipped, and certain cellars within the town—most notably beneath the town hall and the temple—will be strengthened to serve as refuge should alarm be given. Signal posts and warning horns will be placed along the tree line and the main paths, that word of danger may travel swiftly.
To bring these works to completion, hands will be needed. Carpenters, sawyers, stonemasons, laborers, and any who can lift, haul, or cut will find paid work through the season. Those wishing to join the effort may present themselves at the Town Hall during morning hours, where the overseers will mark their names and assign tasks.
Let all know that these improvements are for the welfare of every family who calls this place home. With diligence and shared purpose, we shall see our town made the stronger for whatever shadows move beyond our fields.
In service to the office of the mayor,
Maeren Aumersair
