Philosopher's Stone

Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement by a spellcaster)

A philosopher’s stone is a dense, palm-sized object that appears mundane at first glance—often resembling a dull black rock or an unremarkable lodestone. When held by a creature attuned to it, faint golden veins pulse beneath its surface, and it radiates powerful transmutation magic.

While attuned to the stone, you have advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) checks related to alchemy or transmutation. Also, you can cast Identify at will, without expending a spell slot or material components, but only targeting potions, poisons, or alchemical substances.

The stone holds 5 charges and regains 1d4 + 1 charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the stone crumbles into inert dust and is destroyed. Additionally, while you are attuned to the stone, you are immune to disease and once per day, you can touch a creature and cast greater restoration without expending a spell slot or material components.

Transmutation

As an action, you can expend charges to transmute nonmagical metal within 10 feet of you:

  • 1 charge: Convert up to 1 pound of a base metal (such as iron or copper) into silver.
  • 2 charges: Convert up to 1 pound of lead into gold.
  • 3 charges: Convert up to 10 pounds of iron into silver or 5 pounds of lead into gold.

The transformation is permanent. Objects being worn or carried by unwilling creatures are unaffected.

Elixir of Life

You can expend 3 charges and 1 minute of work to infuse a potion of healing (any rarity) with the stone’s power, transforming it into an Elixir of LifeWhen a creature drinks this elixir, it regains the maximum number of hit points possible from the potion and is freed from any diseases, poisons, blindness, or deafness.

If the elixir is poured over a creature that has died within the last minute, the creature instead returns to life with hit points equal to the maximum healing of the potion. This effect fails if the creature is missing vital body parts or if its soul is unwilling.
