Varibara

The varibara has a heavy, barrel-shaped body and short head, with reddish-brown fur on the upper part of its body that turns yellowish-brown underneath. The creature lacks down hair, and its guard hair differs little from over hair.

Adult varibaras grow to ~10 ft in length, stand ~6.5 tall at the withers, and is estimated to weigh 4000 lb. It has slightly webbed feet and vestigial tail. Their hind legs are slightly longer than their forelegs; they have three toes on their rear feet and four toes on their front feet. Their muzzles are blunt, with nostrils, and the eyes and ears are near the top of their heads. Their maw is lined with needle-sharp teeth, and coated with acidic saliva that is fairly corrosive.

This creature currently makes its home within the Elder Depot out in the scrub, though it seems to only be a recent development, as it leaves often to seek water. Current speculation is that it visits the depot often and has been consuming the material the depot is made of over the course of several months. It is occasionally seen wandering the dried riverbed, in a state that some villagers have described as "morose".
