One of two Ard Righ, a contested position following the War of Spears. Mochuma was largely attributed with the resolution of the War of Spears and either by brute force or political strong-arming, he was able to marshal the caern-raths of the inisa into a loose alliance and unsteady armistice. This accomplishment afforded him the title he is often known by; Mochuma the Unifier, although most sources cite it as a self-proclaimed title. Regardless, the peace he was able to force was unsteady even into recent days, with frequent battles and wars breaking out between the caern-raths and their holdings.
Indeed, if Manannan Port was not the second economic power of the nation, the Ard Righ would have long since been dethroned as attempts at wresting control of the nation had become an almost yearly event since the "end" of the War of Spears. Whether by his counter part the Ard Righ Mac Gille Chomhghaill in Lwyg-Rath, or by the myriad disparate Lughlinn Mór of the lesser caern-raths, the walls of Manannan Port did not see peace for more than a few months at a time.
Unification, questionable as it is, also seems to be the sole mark of his deeds. Despite most claiming him to be the greatest of the Ard Righ since the Wounding of the Good Son, his achievements are far outstripped by his failures. Mochuma made many attempts to gain control of vast swaths of land he did not have the manpower to hold such as Tailté na Gréine. While the initial invasion went well, he was ultimately forced to capitulate it when he took overwhelming losses during the march through the Bulthron and the vicious fighting in Doan Toor.
Possibly, most telling, is that Ard Righ Mochuma was only Ard Righ for the last 5 years of the two-hundred year war that ravaged the nation. Its hard to say if he took advantage of his place in the chronology of the war, or if the people were simply so elated to see it end they easily granted him the title of unifier. Despite his great failings in the Crescent Bay area and his inability to ever make a march north to Lwyg-Rath and dispute the now long-held claims of the Lughlinn Mór there who demand the title of Ard Righ, Mochuma the Unifier is firmly planted in the cultural minds of the human populace as a warrior-king and the savior of a broken nation.
