Fae

Fickle and enigmatic, the fae are impossible for a mortal to completely understand. Their ways are steeped in tradition, honor, and, above all else, bargains. Capable of devastating magic or deadly trickery, one should always be careful when dealing with them.

No one knows exactly how new fae appear, some speculate that they're born, some that they just form from the magical essence of the world. Same goes for their life, some have supposedly lived for centuries or even millennia, some for less than a decade.

Due to their individual uniqueness, no one - not even them - really knows. Some speculate that a fae dies when they lie or break promises, but who can say for certain?

The Fae organize in four courts, each one belonging to one of the seasons. Each court is ruled by a single monarch who leads the rest. These courts are rarely visited by outsiders as they exist somewhere outside the bounds of reality, forming their own worlds with their own rules - everchanging as their rulers.

Generally about the size of a human, very large or very small fae being an extremely rare thing, members of the Courts are amongst the most diverse looking supernatural creatures. A fae's appearance is dictated by their own view of themselves. This can change with time, but fae can still recognize each other by a sort of magical signature.
