Venture City

Venture City may be the last city -- At least as far as people know;  a shining beacon of achievement in both technological and human potential. Cars fly. Diseases conquered. All for a price. Venture City is an Oligarchy, run by the boards of the corporations within it. The Corporations are the city, the people -- wage slaves -- are either owned by a Corporation, or are consigned to the Sprawl

Frequency of Meta Humans in Venture City

Meta-Human Prevalence and Characteristics in Venture City and the Sprawl

Abstract

Accurate quantification of meta-humans in Venture City and the Sprawl is hindered by inconsistent disclosure from corporations capable of producing meta-humans and biased self-reporting on the Meta-Net. This study presents estimates based on population sampling and highlights the variability in meta-human enhancements.
Methods
A study conducted by Mitsuhama Splice (MS) employed population sampling to estimate meta-human prevalence in Venture City. Results suggested a ratio of approximately 1:10,000, indicating around 1,200 individuals with unlocked super genes in the city's population.

Results

  1. Venture City
  • Estimated 1,200 meta-humans
  • Many possess only partial enhancements, including:
    • Physical attractiveness
    • Enhanced physical conditioning
    • Immunity to disease
  • These limited enhancements are often reserved for high-ranking corporate executives or department heads
  • Mitsuhama Splice exhibits the highest rate of enhancement, with even department heads receiving treatments and abilities
The Sprawl
  • Estimated 1,400 to 1,500 meta-humans
  • Lower propensity of super humans (1:80,000)
  • Stronger propensity to overstate/understate abilities due to increased anonymity
  • Fewer individuals receive pre-natal treatments for genetic defect repair

Discussion

These estimates highlight the variability in meta-human enhancements and the challenges in accurate quantification. Further research is necessary to refine these estimates and explore the implications of meta-human prevalence in these populations.

The "Law" of Venture City

Venture "City" is a city in name only -- defined by the companies that declare themselves as within the city, and the recognition from other companies. This makes the border of the city fluctuate by what companies are recognized, though AEGIS Security declares all those company properties that pay for security services are within the City.

There is no city government, exactly, rather layers of potentially overlapping corporate policy. Policies in a corporate zone are enforced through private security, such as AEGIS Security, and possibly private meta-human contracts through the Meta Net. The only other things really legally enforceable contracts.

For companies, contracts are laws, made to be creatively broken. Being in a corporate zone technically means accepting their implied contract. ("By being here, you agree to the following:") Contracts can be between people (though sprawls have a harder time entering contracts) For contracts, there is also a form of peer pressure amongst corporations and a reputation for not honoring contracts you signed is bad for business, and there are companies that are paid to be honest and fair (or as fair as they can be, depending on who is paying them)

Arbiters help with the creation and interpretation of contracts
