PETER HUDSON thinks of himself as a hard boiled Private Detective in
the vein of Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe. The usual clients were missing
person and "property retrieval". Then, Parasol came looking for him to
do a little corporate espionage. (He was a difficult to trace asset)
They got word that a competitor was developing a new type of nano tech that once entering the hosts bloodstream, could make its way into the spinal column and, entering the spinal fluid, could program stem cells to activate the power gene and direct it to produce any power they programmed into the nanobot.

While breaking into the lab, Hudson discovered that there were technicians at still working. They sounded the alarm, and one of the guards that answered tried to shoot Peter, but instead, hit a tech who was holding a syringe filled with unprogrammed nanobot, who was promptly thrown into him, injecting the bots into him. The pain was excruciating, and just as the guards were about to grab Hudson, he wished he had stayed at home and found himself suddenly there. The unprogrammed bots had determined what he needed at that moment, and told the genes what to do. Of course, the nanites immediately lost power, having done their job, and Peter Hudson had become The Dark Stranger
