Even the scummiest of Monetarists understand that even if power and political gain can be bought in Ul'dah, sympathy and kindness can--on occasion--be used for political gain as well. And so, whenever the wealthy lords and merchants have spare gold and a willing heart, the displaced children living at this orphanage may yet benefit from the scraps. It was once investigated if such an organization could be used to launder ill gotten coin, however this was met with severe disapproval from The Syndicate once the topic was broached and the instigator was dealt with by the Brass Blades for admitting the need to launder money in the first place.
Still, with the massive influx of war orphans from Ala Mhigo flooding to the outskirts of Ul'dah, as well as families broken apart by debt, gambling, and worse it's not a bad idea to keep displaced youngsters off the streets and in a relatively safe home and with some recreation and schooling. For that, the Sunset Rest is at least sufficient. Luckily, the donors aside, the actual staff running the place are kindhearted if not a little overwhelmed trying to keep strapping boys and girls in their growth spurts fed on their budgets.
