All that Susanna ever wanted was a friend to call her own. Just a companion that she could comb her hair and share secrets with. When her mother gave her Calcabrina, she thought her wish had been granted. Yet, as the days go on and Susanna gets older, Calcabrina seems ever more alive. Worse, Susanna can swear her mother is getting slower, her movements stiffer, her joints creaking. And worst of all, that ghoulish, girlish laughter ringing in the dark corners of the house in the night. Susanna is learning all too late, some wishes are better off ungranted.
