Glacial Calendar

23 Storms, 1166 KY

There is one constant, that of time. The neverending ticking-by of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, seasons, and years. Each of these elements is used to measure all sorts of activities, and without one much of the rest of the flow of time becomes nonsensical… especially to the life of a mortal being.

Once, there were numerous calendars in use by what are now the peoples of Huldan and Voyrmark, along with other nations that have long since faded away. It was when the Glacial Knights unified an age ago that one became dominant across all of Kälran.

The Glacial Calendar as it is known was built upon the distinctions of those predating it, with the largest influences coming from those making up the two aforementioned neighbouring countries. Elder, Erborn, and Eötnua all have their own considerations and naming schemes for the calendar as it currently exists.

Flow of Time

The smallest unit of time is a second which is singular, followed by a minute of sixty seconds, and then an hour of sixty minutes. Only the latter is notable in that each hour of the day is dedicated to one of the Divine worshipped outside of the Celestial Triumvirate.

Days are formed of twenty-four hours, and are eponymously named after the highest order and their godsends.

Weeks are made up from six days, with specific ones throughout the year being used to commemorate notable past events.

Months are four weeks predominantly, with one additional day being added onto the end of each, and are so recognised to match to the key aspects. The extra day is tied to the Rhythmic Cycles, and is called xxx.

Seasons are split into higher and lower periods. Higher seasons are equal to two months, whilst lower seasons sit at only one month. Whether it was originally the Gyryr or the seasons that became designated by the other is unknown.

Years are composed of four higher seasons and four lower seasons, which results in twelve months, or three hundred days in total. Every fifth year however gains an additional two weeks of six days allocated to the end of them. This period falls outside of the usual calendar dates, and is also tied to the Rhythmic Cycles, with this being called the Month of xxx.

Seasons

Seasons go - Spring, Estiva, Midtid (Midnight Sun), Summer, Autumn, Hiberti, Midtid (Polar Night), Winter

Eötnua season names - Spring+Estiva (Ánoi), Midtid+Summer (Kalokaír), Autumn+Hiberti (Fthínou), Midtid+Winter (Vheimó)

They only recognise the four, so the following or former to each main ties to them

Erborn by contrast call them by the Gyryr?

Years

Forests and Wildlife are revered all year around by all, so they do not have specific month distinctions, but rather it’s more how years are split, e.g. year of the oth, year of the tranquils, etc
