Benjamin Jacobi

It is not your responsibility to finish the work [of perfecting the world], but you are not free to desist from it either.

Rabbi Tarfon, Pirkei Avot 2:16

“People speak of hope as if it is this delicate, ephemeral thing made of whispers and spider webs. It’s not. Hope has dirt on her face, blood on her knuckles, the grit of the cobblestones in her hair, and just spat out a tooth as she rises for another go.”

Description & Personality

Ben is an easygoing guy who still looks like he walked out his front door in 2009 and showed up here, complete with shag haircut. He's almost never without his lived-in leather jacket and Doc Martens, but he will layer appropriately for the seasons. His real passion is for music, and like his fashion sense, absolutely refuses to join the modern age. As a number of witnesses can attest, he nearly fell over when someone mentioned the pending 20th anniversary of The Black Parade. Ben's 6' stature and slender build hide a compelling personality and presence. He is fiercely protective of those he considers to be His People, and he's determined to build a chosen family.

He's a Nice Jewish Boy from Queens, and both his accent and his manners reflect that. The accent disappears when he sings, though.

His Mein, which he doesn't show often out of personal preference more than anything else, takes his perception of his experience to the next level. "I'll make you a star," the stranger whispered as he led him through a doorway. A star he became, with bright glowing blue hair and eyes and pearlescent golden skin. His too-wide smile and broadened ribcage allow him to project loudly and far.

Story Hooks

Where are you going, where have you been?

Like all Changelings, Ben's life has a very distinct Before and After. He loves to talk about where he came from and how he's drawing on that to become the person he wants to be - not what the Fae made him.

We Were Meant to Live for so Much More

He's a Dawn, through and through. This world is worth saving and living in when the saving is done. Fix the world for the people living in it now, not for some ephemeral legacy that may not come if you don't succeed. He will absolutely put in the work to bring people home alive and make sure the home they come back to is worth it. Tikkun Olam is a way of life - social justice and social responsibility go hand in hand.

Sing Just a Little Bit Louder, Sing with All you've Got

Ben is an alt/pop punk musician and singer/songwriter. His knowledge of his genre of music from ~1995-2009 is extensive, and it doesn't take much to coax him into a song or five. Anyone who wants to jam, build a band he can sing in, or simply give him a space to perform will quickly find themselves a friend.
